Attorney Julie A. Ketterman - Child Protective Services Defense Attorneys
This is an advertisement for a lawyer's office in Texas. I do like a lot of what is said here, as it is some valuable advice for picking a lawyer to deal with CPS.
Lawyers are system sucks though. Don't let them fool you. They're in it for the money. You win, you loose, you pay and they'll drag it out as long as they can.
CPS is good for the economy. Keeps people working.

Clients of Julie Ketterman have reviewed her on Yahoo. There are several very negative comments about her representation. Basically she asks for a lot of money up front, makes promises and does not deliver. She doesn't show up for your Court hearings, is disorganized, unprepared and is basically dishonest. Beware of hiring her. She is not the top lawyer that she presents to the client.

DeleteI hired Ms. Ketterman to represent me to get custody of my grandchildren from CPS after finding her many advertisements on the internet. Ms. Ketterman convinced me that CPS was nothing more than an adoption ring for white children. She told me that it was a governmental conspiracy and that the State got paid for every child they adopted out to non relatives. Ms. Ketterman told me she had connections at CPS and that she always won. Well, she was the worst mistake I ever made in my life. I paid her $5000 up front. I am not a person of wealth and I gave this incompetent lawyer my hard earned money. After she was paid she would not return calls. Ms. Ketterman did not show up for Court, respond to text messages and left me standing alone. She would cancel appointments, re-schedule (because of various alleged emergencies) and cancel again. She did not have connections with CPS just the opposite from my observation. The woman did nothing and had the nerve to ask for more money. When I said no what have you done for me to earn the 5 grand she withdrew from my case. This was a blessing because I hired another lawyer. My new lawyer talked to the CPS and my grandkids attorney. CPS than sat down with me and we worked it out. My grandkids now live with me and I agree with what the CPS did to help my family. If I would not have hired someone like Ms. Ketterman who makes you think their is a crazy conspiracy and black market adoption agenda my grandkids would not have spent so much time in foster care. I do not want one more grandmother to be taken advantage by someone like Ms. Ketterman. She is dishonest, only cares about getting her 5 grand and acts like she is the best and seems to love the media. She is a bad attorney and I really just needed someone to tell me the truth and be a go between CPS. Ms. Ketterman told me horrible things about the Judge and my grandchildren's attorney. Funny thing is after Ms. Ketterman was out of the picture they turned out to treat me fair and really did care about my grandchildren. This woman should not have a law license. I thought lawyers had an ethical duty to be truthful. She can talk the talk, but sure can't walk the walk. I love my Daughter, but CPS was right her parent rights needed to be terminated and even though I wish it could have been different my grandchildren needed to be adopted by me. Ms. Ketterman's actions almost created a situation to prevent that from happening. Do not fall for her stories and lies and be the next victim of her quest for money at anyone's expense. PLEASE BEWARE OF JULIE KETTERMAN"S SHE IS DISHONEST. I hope I have helped some other innocent grandmother from bad representation. Thank you and good luck.

DeleteI think that we have to be aware that not all attornies and their clients are a "good fit." Also, not all clients take their attorney's advice and then are bitter when things do not go their way. For every "bad experience" there are a hundred happy clients. Unfortunately, the satisfied clients do not get on blogs and express their opinions.

DeleteShe is dishonest and works also with cps in my case she was right about removing but not separating my children I asked for my three children to be placed with my ex as two of them where his and it was approved she filed papers in the individual best interest of him and it was okayed for him to go with my ex but supposedly the judge said something and cps changed their minds my son is now 5 with no family around I urge you to find another lawyer for your child's own good she is really cps undercover.

DeleteEverything said regarding Julie is correct. She is a money hungry liar. She is rude, non responsive, rescheduled court dates and is NEVER prepared. DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON HER!!!!! SHE IS A DISHONEST LIAR!!!! Her own kids don't even talk to her. That says A LOT.

It is interesting to me that you said that her kids don't talk to her. When I arrived for a meeting with her, she introduced me to 2 of her daughters. She also had some of her grandchildren there. I am pretty sure you don't know what you are talking about.
ReplyDeleteMy experience with Ms Ketterman has been nothing but positive. She fights hard for parent clients who may not otherwise have a chance to be fairly represented. There are more cases than are reported where CPS makes significant errors in judgement where parents are concerned and Ms Ketterman fights vigorously to defend parents against a system. Attorney representation is not free and you will get what you pay for.
ReplyDeleteThe unfortunate thing about these blogs is that anyone can come on here and post whatever stories they want to whether they were truly represented by Mrs. Ketterman or not. An angry person who lost to Mrs. Ketterman and her client,(or someone who simply didn't think things turned out how they hoped, even though legally everything was done properly), can come on here and posts whatever they wish without any kind of proof of their allegations. In my experience, Mrs. Ketterman fights hard for her clients. As far as the one posting about Mrs. Ketterman "seeming to love the media" - unfortunately, now a days, nothing gets accomplished legally without being exposed and getting people involved. Additionally, I too have met Mrs. Ketterman's daughters - so I'm not sure where that statement stems from.

ReplyDeleteThis is Julie Ketterman. I usually do not respond to these blogs/comments. But when my family is being attacked, I feel that I have no choice. So I will address each of the issues that have come up:
ReplyDelete1. I do ask for large retainers. I do so because representing parents on CPS cases takes a lot of time and energy. To represent the parents properly, it takes experience and knowledge. I have both.
2. I only make one promise: that I will work hard for the client and fight for his/her rights as long as the client takes my advice and works equally as hard.
3. I always show up for court hearings. Sometimes I am late because I have court hearings in other counties or other courts. The local rules require that I go to the outer counties first. If I can't make it to court for some reason, I always have one of my partners or a fellow attorney stand in for me.
4. I do not consider myself disorganized. Often times I will be dealing with several cases on the same day. I am not unorganized. But nor can I control the court's docket or when the judge may or may not hear the cases. Remember, there are usually 30+ cases on the docket each day and Houston is the 4th largest city in the US.
5. I am always prepared for each and every hearing.
6. I consider myself to be an honest and ethical attorney. If anyone feels differently, please contact me with a name and case number and I will respond (or you can leave the info on this blog).
Well Ms Ketterman - You sucked down my money - I never met you thru the entire process - you were not present at court and you sent another attorney from another firm to represent our case and this attorney did not even know why we were there. He did not know anything about our case. CPS won - they were able to get everything they wanted that was asked for in the petition against us. I am not even sure you exist and I was yelled at by one of your representatives over the phone. I received nothing form your firm for all the money I had to pay for your representation. This was totally a bad experience and I would never recommend your services to anyone.

ReplyDelete7. I never claim to be a top lawyers. I am one of the handful of attorneys who are Nationally certified in child welfare law and I devote 98% of my practice to this field. Additionally, I have a very high success rate.
8. I do not love the media. However, sometimes having a story aired can help. And I have never got the media involved without the clients suggestion or consent.
9. I have never misrepresented a grandparent. I am a grandparent as well and take my role as a grandmother as seriously as the next. I fight for grandparents everyday and will continue to do so.
10. I, too, sometimes have family emergencies and have rescheduled court hearings and/or meetings. I will not apologize for this. I will add, that very few of the emergencies in my firm are personal. Many are other clients/cases where a child is injured or could be injured and it's necessary to reschedule things. I am not too busy for my clients and I am very passionate about what I do. Some of the bloggers need to understand that we are in the fourth largest city in the US and our courts are overloaded.
11. I am not rude. I can be stern and harsh because I understand the law and what clients must and must not do. At times clients can continue to harm their case when they refuse to take the advice of their counsel. There are times that I have no choice except to be firm and harsh. Sometimes, it's the only way a mom or dad will listen. My job is to fight for parents and keep families together; not to make friends.
12. To those of you who claim that I am money hungry. I do like money, but I'm not money hungry. I don't know why people think that attorneys shouldn't charge money. Our time and knowledge is what we charge for. And we also have employees to pay, rent to pay, overhead expenses, and oh yes, our personal household overhead. This all takes money. I certainly wish that I was independently wealthy so that I could take every case pro bono; but I'm not. Sorry. Every client that comes in to my office and hires this firm agrees and signs a very detailed employment contract that lays out exactly what we charge and how we charge for it. There are no surprises. The clients that complain that I am money hungry refuse to pay their bill or to make financial arrangement to pay for their bill. If I don't get paid, then I'm forced to withdraw. But this in only after giving each client many chances to pay their bill.
13. As to the personal attacks regarding my family. They are simply unfounded. Whereas I don't claim to reach perfection or have the perfect family, I am a responsible parent and expect the same from my children for the protection of my own grandchildren. I will hold my clients to the level of parenting or grandparenting.

Before hiring Julie ketterman, we had a baby lawyer, of course our baby lawyer got 2500 dollars to sit there and tell us we have to follow what Cps says to get our kids back. After hiring her we got Cps to see what idiots they are. Even tho we are still fight for them for good (they currently live with us) it started last year, she has only been a no show one time, because of a family emergency.. It's not like she doesn't have a family, one time out of almost a year? Pretty damn good if you ask me. Also she had Scott step in for her so it wasn't like we stood there going wtf?!? And guess what? We still got thru with him there and better yet the judge loved him. Julie isn't at harsh as people say she is, she's firm about the crap and you have to follow what she says she's just wants the best outcome. Also Cps is all about the money, the kids weren't even living with us when they were taken away from us. And now they are taking or sons social security disability check money even tho he lives with us and we don't see any of that money! Now Cps is just tired of us in general and wants it to be all over. It was the best money ever spent. Sorry for the people who actually mess up as parents and even the BEST LAWYER (yup I said best lawyer because she is) can't even get you out of it that you get mad at the fact you loose your kids for good maybe you should be better parents? or that you can't pay the bill because you don't think it's worth keeping your kids out off foster care. But the money we spent is so worth it and also let me tell you, you get what you paid for! Julie cost because she knows what's best and how to make sure she gets the best outcome, like I said our baby lawyer took 2500 dollars to sit in a Cps meeting and tell us to do crap we shouldn't do, also the same stuff that lawyer said to do Julie got knocked off because she proved it wasnt right! When she finally made it, she was unprepared, dressed like a hooker and had no idea what to even say. She sat there stuffing chocolate in her mouth off of the judges desk. It was so embarrassing. My husband, me and family members in attendance were in complete shock. she is a disgrace to the justice system and I can tell you, if your children mean ANYTHING to you, do not hire her, she will drag things out and never accomplish anything. We hired her and in just 4 months, she had gone through 3 different assistants, so everytime you called, you got a new person on the phone who knew absolutely nothing. I am telling you, if you hire her, you might as well take your money set it on fire bc she will not do anything for you. She is nothing better than a used car salesman.

ReplyDeleteEvery negative comment about Julie Ketterman is true. I asked her about the bad reviews before I hired her to represent me in a parental grandmother visitation case. She defended herself by saying the clients did not do what she told them to. YET the last TWO hearings she was tied up in trial and did not even inform me of one of them and the other ss the 9th and I just found out on the 5th by calling her assistant yesterday that court is Monday. I have a job and cannot take of without notice. It is very sad that people in our situations are so desperate to find someone who RESPRENTS herself as a CPS lawyer all over the intanet and you are hurting and want to believe ahe will help you and spend all this money and NOTHING. NOTHING but postponements , no calls back or answered emails. I am not bitter towards her and have proof because I keep read receipts and documented everything. I pity her and anyone else who is snowed over by her. Please please use good judgement and do not use this women. She will cause you more heartbreak than you had to begin with. She can deny this all she wants, but I have emails with proof. Shame on you Julie.
ReplyDeleteShame in you, Ft Bend Grandma. If you're going to post a comment like this, at least be honest and tell the readers the entire story. You were told how difficult your case would be; you chose to proceed anyway. Come forward with your emails and proof; don't just say you have it.
DeleteIts really shocking to see all this. I was hoping that all the negative concerns I was starting to have with Mrs Ketterman were wrong but, now I know. Its really sad to say but, I honestly dont think there are any REAL attorneys out there anymore. Probably never was, the case outcome was just by luck. Now because I listened to" MY ATTORNEY" ill probably never get my son back... I could care less about the money, (even though I cant even pay my electric bill at the moment) id forward every dime coming in my account directly to her if I could just hold both my babies at the same time...even if only for a minute... She made me really believe that was possible. It never crossed my mind that it was even a possibility with everything we've been through but, somehow she had me thinking otherwise.

ReplyDeleteThere are good lawyers, Chris Branson , Ms. Levi and other. Do your research. Julie did NOTHING for me. NOTHING. Do your research. My case is probably going to work out, but with no help from her. She is a slob, who care nothing about the people she represents. She lies and is a HORRIBLE lawyer and that is putting it nicely. Anything postitive about her she wrote herself. Worthless human being, doesn't derserve the air she breathes after the harm she has caused so many people. I hope Karma slaps her in the face, Har, very hard.

DeleteShe cost us our one chance to keep our child out of CPS custody by showing up late for the "Show Cause "hearing and doing nothing to counteract the lies in CPS affidavit as we were told she would. Despite her claims to the contrary, she seems to be nothing but a CPS puppet. STAY AWAY.

ReplyDeleteIf the folks who have complained here about Ketterman would follow through and file a detailed complaint with the state bar assoc. we could put an end to the misery this woman continues to cause.
ReplyDeleteShe took the case on a contingency basis. She asked for money upfront for filing fees etc. She then decided not to take the case but charged us for attorney fees. We are going to fight to get out money back. She also never returns calls even to discuss why Attorney fees were charged when the case was taken on contingency which means she would have to win the case to make money. CAVEAT EMPTOR
ReplyDeleteAgain, I don't take contingency cases. I defend people against CPS. There no way to get money damages in a CPS case. It would be illogical to take a CPS case on contingency. I do ask for expense money. So asking for money up front for filing fees probably did happen. I shouldn't be expected to pay for anyone's litigation. This post doesn't even make sense. If I decided not to take the case then why would I ask for attorney fees. Whoever authored this post has never contacted me to "fight for their money back". Nor has this person.filed any complaints to the state bar. I always return phone calls. Maybe I don't return them as fast as clients would like, but I do return them. Caveat emptor? Do you even know what that means?

DeleteShe cost me over $200,,000 and 4 years in prison for a crime I didn't commit. Her representation was well below what she had promised. All of this you are hearing in the negative is 100% correct. She claimed to be a criminal defense attorney. She was by no means prepared for a jury trial and left me without appeal representation and wouldn't respond to any of the letters I sent from behind bars for a crime I was innocent of. She lied to me over and over before my trial. She waited two years to send me all of my files in order for me to try to fight my wrongful conviction myself. I had to threaten a grievance with the state bar before I ever got some of my documents from her. After two years, without all of the records, you are time barred from filing certain documents to contest your case in federal courts. She is NOT someone that will be in your best interest to retain to represent you. She kept wanting large sums of money in excess of $20,000 which I couldn't come up with all at once. Listen to these reviews and look for another attorney. She will not fight for you, only against you for your money.
ReplyDeleteWow. This post is amazing. Let's tell all these readers the truth, shall we? To begin with you weren't charged $200,000. And you certainly didn't pay me that much. I did expect you to pay for your legal defense. You made an agreement to pay your legal fees in $20,000 installments (which, BTW, you never paid in full and still owe me money to this day).
DeleteYou did spend four years in prison. But the four years was a gift. I saved you from life in prison. Now, for the crime you didn't commit.....let's tell the story to the readers: This client made the choice to drink and then get behind the wheel of his company truck. And this was all in the morning hours out on a two lane highway in Brazoria County. What happened next, Mr P? I'll say it: He drove into the other lane with oncoming traffic. He hit a car head on. This car had a father and two children inside. Dad was taking the kids to school before he went to work. Mr P killed the father, killed the daughter and seriously injured the son (who ended up getting a leg amputated and is now paralyzed from the waste down). Mr P was charged with two counts of intoxication manslaughter and one count of intoxication assault. He was facing spending the rest of his life in prison. We had a jury trial (the trial that he claims I wasn't prepared for). The result: 2 yrs for each death, totaling 4 years in prison and 10 years probation for the little boy, whose life will forever be changed. Sure seems like a good result considering there were 2 dead people, one being a child, and 1 amputee/paraplegic child.
I did not wait two years to send you your files. You received them immediately. You then asked for a court appointed lawyer (paid for by the good citizens of Brazoria County) to appeal your case. And what did that attorney tell you, Matthew? He said you would be crazy to appeal. Isn't that right?
Federal Court? You had no federal claim. So I'm not sure where that statement is coming from.
You never threatened to file a grievance. Did you add that for dramatic affect?
Now tell the readers that you're out of prison, walking the streets, and driving on the roads and highways of Harris and surrounding counties. You embarrassed your company (who got stuck with a huge civil suit) and disgraced your poor father (who did his best to pay your legal fees). And now you have the audacity to author an internet comment like this. You're amazing.
Dishonest attorney to say the least. She took our case on contingency but tried keeping our client trust account money for legal fees. We e-mailed her, called her but were ignored. We finally had another attorney contact her and finally got our money back. We never had a formal meeting with her. She filed a petition and then retracted it. We got no place with her at all. All I can say is BUYER BEWARE!!!!!! This is a person to stay away from.
ReplyDeleteThis is an interesting post because I don't take cases on contingencies. I never tried to keep you trust money, Dr. I merely credited that money toward expenses, as you contracted. You never had another attorney contact me. And we had several formal meetings. Each time you explained to me how you did not physically abuse your disabled daughter. A petition was filed based on the facts as you told them. The petition was withdrawn only after further investigation showed that the suit was frivolous. The petition was withdrawn to save you from being sanctioned. I was protecting you. If what you're posting is true why haven't you filed a complaint with the State Bar? Very curious.
DeleteDo NOT Hire! She scammed $3k in 25 days without ever speaking to us! Her paralegal acts as JULIE KETTERMAN, even hands her business card out during the first meeting. Even worse, the office receptionist shows up to CPS meetings. Talk about kicking someone while they're down. Shame on all of you in that office.
ReplyDelete1. I didn't scam anyone. You read and signed the contract. You just didn't like my legal advice so you fired me. As an attorney, you can't always tell clients what they want to hear. 2. My paralegal has never acted as me. She does, however hand out my business cards.3. My office receptionist does not show up at CPS meetings; my client liason does. It's part of her job. 4. As I've stated before, if you're going to post a comment like this, be brave enough to state your name and tell the entire truth. You should explain to the readers that there was a sexual assault in your home and you didn't want to take the necessary steps to prevent it from happening again. Instead of listening to me, you decided to put your children at risk and do things your way. I can't force a client to take my advice. And many times, as hard as I try, I can't save a client from themselves or the choices they make.
DeleteI hired Julie Ketterman, biggies mistake ever!!!! She took my $3,000.00 and then never returned my phone calls or emails. She is a lier and a thief.
ReplyDeleteI can see how the negative comments about Julie can appear to be true, but in reality, this is a tough subject. As a victim of domestic violence my whole life I was in an abusive marriage and was talked into relinquishing my rights after fighting CPS for 18 months because I didn't have a lawyer, and I truly believe that if I had Julie that I may have gotten the help that the overloaded system couldn't give properly. I left that marriage and found my current husband who like me was also victim of domestic violence his here comes CPS again for the second time for me but the first time for him, we hired Julie right away and if I remember correctly she has a psychology degree think it's important for dealing with parents who have PTSD from domestic violance. My husband and I then found out we were pregnant with our second daughter, we got the help we needed and got our daughter back without losing our 2nd. But because my mother in law was committing benevolent neglect and I was allowing it four days later we got CPS in our life again third time for me second for my husband. I didn't hire Julie til 4 months later due to the retainer, but I went to her seeing that the main difference was the quality of care you get from the overloaded system. I am now close to the end and thank Julie who has made sure CPS did their job, in reality in a perfect world if CPS had zero flaws Julie would not have a job, trust in her, don't blame her for the epidemic in this world today and wake up before it's too late.

ReplyDeleteNow let's say that you have either committed abuse on a child or allowed it, and you hired Julie and she just made the case go away cuz you paid her, THEN she would be evil. Is that what you thought would happen? So did I, but I also knew I needed help and being in the system was my opportunity, but without Julie I was not getting what I knew I needed.
ReplyDeleteDanielle Selnar and absolutely DID lead herself on to be the attorney. Now that our case it's done I can say believe EVERY NEGATIVE COMMENT HERE. SHE IS GREEDY, SHE LIES, HER STAFF ARE SOME OF THE MOST INCOMPETENT PEOPLE I'VE EVER SEEN, AND SHE IS JUST AS INCOMPETENT. IN FACT I TRULY BELIEVE SHE DID THE BEST SHE COULD TO PROLONG OUR CASE SO SHE COULD ILLEGALLY DOUBLE BILL FOR AS MANY COURT APPEARANCES AS POSSIBLE. SHE IS NEVER PREPARED!!!! I gave lots of information to her. I am and have my associate and now my bachelor's degree as a paralegal and have a pretty good idea of what kind of stuff my attorney would need and AND NEVER READ ANYTHING NOT EVEN AT LEAST ONCE BEFORE OUR HEARING! I had to get her attention and tell her...hey I have an appointment with the counselor on this xxx date so SO COULD TELL the JUDGE!!! I even tried to give a shortened version before court BUT SHE WOULDN'T EVEN GIVE US FIVE MINUTES...FOR THE 15k we ended up paying her WE DESERVED FIVE F***ING MINUTES!!! She is so INCOMPETENT she even texted me a picture of a letter stating she had failed the testing to be board certified AS specializing in family law! How stupid is that!!! OF THE ATTORNEYS I HAVE EVER KNOW I HAVE NEVER MET A MORE INCOMPETENT ATTORNEY!!! And all of the nice reviews I would bet have been put up by people who work for her! She even accused me of 3 lies. 1. Falsifying a business affidavit which I have a letter from that doctor's office that states the records WERE NEVER IN MY POSSESSION...PROOF OF HER AND HER OFFICE'S INCOMPETENCE. 2. That I said she reviewed records she didn't...yet she looked over pictures of them right in front of my husband and me, and 3. That I said she had copies of my medical records when she didn't. Yes her office had then because Danielle Selnar said they came in with the affidavit done incorrectly. Incorrect maybe but that is STILL A COPY OF RECORDS!!! Need more PROOF or information just contact me
ReplyDeleteJulie Ketterman's office also double bills which is illegal and her paralegal set a price for OUR our c accepted us AS clients, took our money, and gave BAD LEGAL ADVICE WHICH AS SHE WAS NOT AN ATTORNEY WAS JUST AS ILLEGAL AS THE REST OF HER ACTIONS!
ReplyDeleteI find it quite concerning that Julie Ketterman comes to a blog to respond to practically every negative comment that is made about her. Beyond that, she tries to embarass her disgruntled clients by sharing confidential details about their cases in an attempt to bully people into silence! She claims that she is an ethical attorney and challenges people to provide a case number that says otherwise. A quick Google search found this ruling from the court of appeals. Julie Ketterman was sanctioned for filling frivolous and harassing claims and was even ordered to take ethics classes! I don't think I want her representing me!

Julie, what are your intentions on fixing the mistakes made this week? Has she just lost her daughter and $6000? You have my number, feel free to let me know if whatever was done is fixable. ReplyDeleteShe gave me the scare tactics and promises of priority. Then she stopped returning texts, emails and never returned calls. I should have Googled her abs then ran my car might have concluded sooner. Do your homework before handing over your check and trust when you're so vulnerable both legally and emotionally. Look somewhere else if you want to be a priority.

ReplyDeleteMiss Ketterman is representing me and have to say she has been nothing BUT professional. I am amazed the 60 or so same fake grandma poster thinks she can change reality. CPS stretches out the court dates not her. Yes this is expensive. And she can direct you to getting damages if the case is good. 6k? Try a case like this being 20k. I have researched Julie and oddly no REAL horror stories with the Bar or the news. Just blog trolls. She has done amazing work for me getting my son back. So, read a review but if you do not see a REAL Bar complaint I'd ignore the fake accounts and the anons. Just know it's a terrible, and expensive up hill fight. And well if you did abuse your kid and she can't help you. Might want to look in the mirror to whom is to blame.
