State of Sadness: Local Author Reveals Inside Look at the Foster Care System

Imagine yourself not having a place to call home. Imagine longing for that place, and after finally finding it and settling in and becoming comfortable…it is taken from you – forcing you to move to another place, which you hope to call home. Yet again you are there for only a limited time and find yourself on the move. As this process repeats itself, each move wears you down and you begin to lose hope. Welcome to the world of the hundreds of thousands of foster children scattered across the United States who are trapped in the vicious cycle of the child welfare system, as they are moved from house to house, but never to a home.

Too Poor To Parent?

Too Poor To Parent?

A child accidentally falls off his top bunk. His mother worries. The child says his knee hurts, and it looks like a bruise is forming on his arm. His mother wants a doctor to see the child, but hesitates for a moment about taking her son to the hospital emergency room.

She is afraid that her child's treating physician will not believe her when she says that her child was hurt in an accident. She knows that a social worker will call child-welfare authorities. She knows that she will be subject to an investigation. She is fearful that those child-welfare authorities may remove her child from her care and charge her with neglect. She knows that it may take several months before her child is returned to her care, and she also knows that during that time she may only be able to see her child once or twice a week. Even then, those visits may be supervised by an agency caseworker.

---------------
False positives are common in drug tests on new moms

Hospitals' initial urine- screening drug tests on pregnant women can produce a high rate of false positives - particularly for methamphetamine and opiates - because they are technically complex and interpretation of the results can be difficult, some experts say.

Dominic Lawson: This child protection hysteria deflects attention from a real, and growing, danger

Sometimes mothers can be so embarrassing. How about Gail Jordan, who asked her local Asda to transfer a photographic print of her son as a five-month-old baby on to a cake for his 21st birthday party?

Asda, however, did not just think this was embarrassing. They thought it was positively sinister, because – shock!horror! – the print revealed the naked bottom of the infant David Jordan. That, of course, was the point of mum's little joke – but it was no laughing matter for the cake censors of the Asda branch in Liscard, Wirral. Ms Jordan was reported in yesterday's newspapers as saying that the supermarket had refused her request, on the grounds that the photo "could be anyone's child, so it could be deemed pornographic".

Note: Just a wee bit anal-retentive (no pun intended) wouldn't you think?

Awareness Challenge...Kidnapped Children Bucks County Social Services

Bucks County Children and Youth social services in Pennsylvania is a disgrace. They put my Grandchildren in foster care, in 3 days without any other reason than a phone tip from the mother of a cocaine dealer that was afraid my daughter would tell on him. The mother was the landlady and his apartment was across from his. She complained about the door bell ringing all night long as his business must be good. The bell was disconnected. The landlady has a brother who works for welfare in bucks county. Her name is Rosado, but I don't know his. Welfare controls Youth social services and in 3 days the children were taken from day care, after an invasion of my daughters apartment without a warrant or probable cause. A phone tip is never cause as stated by the supreme court. They still refuse to return the children as the cry and beg to go with their mommy and pop after our once a month supervised visit.

Landmark decision: U.S. Supreme Court cites false claims as a basis for striking down dealth penalty in child rape cases

In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court on Wednesday overturned the death sentence of a Louisiana man convicted of the aggravated rape of his 8-year-old stepdaughter. Patrick Kennedy v. Louisiana, 2008 U.S. LEXIS 5262 (June 25, 2008). Justice Kennedy, writing for the majority, explained that the practice imposing the death penalty for child rape violated "evolving standards of decency," the yardstick the court uses to decide whether a punishment is cruel and unusual.

The court expressly noted that one of the bases for its holding that the death penalty is unconstitutional for child rape is the risk of false claims.

Dr. Shirley Moore has invited me to join the N.A.A.C.P. and be the one to call a press conference in their name in my area to disclose that these judges are getting paid for forcing people into these non-profit organizations that D.C.F.S. uses to "Fix" these parents and or adopt out our children...

I want ALL judges who have been collecting a check from these organizations thrown in prison! It's a conflict of interest! As it stands, they do not even have to disclose that they are part of these organizations while on the bench! That's insanity! I need every person who can google to find me the names of their local D.C.F.S. judges, the court addresses and every tie to any non-profit organization we can find! I need it fast, too! They're watching my site, so spread this like a virus because they're going to shut it down (or hide their connections) quicker than anything!

Also, anybody in San Bernardino County or anywhere near me needs to call me for info on how to join the N.A.A.C.P....It's only a $30.00 fee to them, not me, annually. If you don't have the money, you can still help and we might get someone to pay your fee to be a part of the N.A.A.C.P. As always, joining Serenah's Angels is FREE...We need EVERYBODY!

Alack of resources alone cannot explain Sacramento Child Protective Service's dismal record in protecting the county's most vulnerable children. Since 3-year-old Adrian Conway was beaten, burned and starved to death by his mother in 1996, spending on CPS in Sacramento County has risen from $33.9 million to nearly $126 million today – a staggering 271 percent increase.

But an investigation by The Sacramento Bee has found that, despite more money and lower caseloads, Sacramento County holds a dubious distinction among the state's largest counties: It has the highest rate of kids who are abused or neglected again within a year after contact with CPS.

Imagine your eight-year-old son is kidnapped from his family in rural Manitoba, is taken to an undisclosed location -- a work farm, where young kids and teens are beaten and used as slave labour -- and is not seen again until he's an adult.

The kidnappers are child and family service agents.

The farm operator is a private owner of a work camp -- ostensibly a "group home" for trouble boys -- but in reality a prison where backbreaking labour is extracted from petrified children who are beaten into submission.

Judge goes too far in child custody matter

Judge goes too far in child custody matter

From across the border comes a story out of Quebec (Canada for those rusty in their geography) where a judge overruled a father who sought to prevent his daughter from going on a school trip. According to the article, a divorced father had custody of his 12-year-old daughter. Dad cut off daughter's internet access after she chatted on a website he blocked. She then used a friend's computer to post "inappropriate pictures of herself" to this website. After Dad found out, he told the daughter she couldn't go on a three-day school trip. Not at all happy with the punishment, daughter moves in with Mom. What does Mom do? She says daughter can go on the trip. One problem--the school required the consent of both parents or a court order. Dad refused to give his consent, so Mom and daughter took their case to court.

Sen. Susan Collins: Adoption proves there's no place like home

By Sen. Susan Collins of Maine

Nowhere is the human spirit of kindness and generosity shown more vividly than it is through adoption. When families open their hearts and their homes to foster children, they are giving them the love and stability that all children deserve, as well as a solid foundation on which to build a successful life.

DCF leader seeks to preserve families

DCF leader seeks to preserve families

In some child welfare circles, ‘family preservationist’ is a dirty phrase.

Many within the complex system have scoffed at the idea that “abused and neglected” children, especially if they are poor and black, belong with their families.

These comments come despite growing evidence that children who grow up in the foster care system are more likely to be homeless, dependent on public assistance and incarcerated than their non-foster care raised counterparts.

Paedophiles free to adopt

A legal loophole in the legislation is allowing child sex offenders to adopt children once they have served out their sentences. While there is currently a growing lobby in Parliament to have the law re-written, it faces an uphill battle to be passed as legislation, as experts claim any move to have the sexual offenders of children named and shamed would be unconstitutional and infringe upon a convicted paedophiles human rights.

Your Thoughts on the Psychic's Claim of Sexual Abuse

Your Thoughts on the Psychic's Claim of Sexual Abuse

I don't think I have ever received so many e-mails on a story. This is a sample of what you have to say about a school's actions after a psychic warned a student with the initial "V" was being sexually abused. The school concluded it could be an 11 year old autistic child named Victoria who had been exhibiting sexualized behaviour that is typical of autism and called in the Children's Aid Society. (see my previous blog for the full story)

Thanks for the e-mails and keep them coming.

Note: Did you ever think that maybe this is the kind of bullshit that they rely on when taking other kids into the system? "No evidence of abuse or neglect? Lets consult the psychic."

CPS plunders families and children pay the price

I am an advocate for parents who feel they were unjustly served by state workers who work for bonuses or promotions and knowingly turn a deaf ear to the cries of the innocent, the children, the ones who should really count. Where are the voices of the children who ask why they cannot go home? Our country will need to compensate for imprisoning these innocent children who grow up angry in these foster incarcerations. How many people in jail are subjects of families torn apart by Child "Protective" Services (CPS) where children were misdiagnosed; where parents were blamed for their child's "Bipolarism", thus stolen from them and put in abusive foster homes? If Bipolar disorder is genetic as they now say, how could parents be blamed for it anyway?
