Detroit dad searching for daughters learns 1 was murdered, the other abused while under mother's care

Deonte Hill tells WXYZ his ex left with his two little girls more than a year ago. Since, he has been looking for them. He got word at times that they were in Louisiana or California. He never could get the exact location.

He now is learning that as he searched the Mississippi Department of Child Protective Services investigated numerous reports of abuse against his 4-year-old Armani Hill and her 3-year-old sister Lailah Hill.

Former foster dad pleads not guilty to molestation allegations

A former volunteer coach and foster parent accused of inappropriate behavior with children pleaded not guilty in an Ascension Parish court Monday.

Jerry Oubre's next court date has been set for June 17.

Former foster dad accused of inappropriate contact with children released from jail

A volunteer softball coach and religious volunteer is facing serious charges related to molestation allegations.

Jerry Oubre was booked into the Ascension Parish Jail Thursday on sexual battery and indecent behavior with juveniles charges. Both charges are felonies.

A former foster dad, volunteer coach, religion teacher arrested on indecent behavior with juvenile

The Diocese of Baton Rouge alerted parents of students at east-side Catholic schools in Ascension Parish about the arrest Thursday of a church volunteer on counts of sexual battery and indecent behavior with juveniles, though it said it hadn't received any complaints about the man's behavior with anyone affiliated with the church.

Jerry Oubre, 52, a former foster father and also a former volunteer coach with a Gonzales softball league, has been suspended by the Diocese from his volunteer position and forbidden to visit the campus of St. Theresa of Avila Church in Gonzales.

No matter how many times Quishandra Walker watches the video, she cannot believe it.

"I'd just like to see justice, cause it's wrong. There's ways you can go around talking to a child without cursing them out. Calling them all kinds of names," Walker said.

Louisiana must do more to get foster children ready to be on their own

For years foster children in Louisiana had to fend for themselves after they turned 18. The state essentially dumped them out of the system with no help.

Many of them have ended up homeless or in prison, the Louisiana State Task Force on Youth Aging Out of Foster Care reported in 2017. Within a year after leaving the foster care system, one in five young people are homeless. Within two years, one in four are in prison, the task force found.

‘They are dumping them’: Foster child sent to shelter on 18th birthday, now in prison

Rashaad Piper was 8 years old when the state of Louisiana placed him in foster care following reports of abuse at his home. He remembers feeling relieved at the time. He thought he was finally going to be safe, that he was going to be cared for and given a second chance at happiness.

“I got tired of getting beat,” he said. “I wanted a better outcome.”

In beating death of toddler, St. Tammany foster mother sentenced to 30 years

Trenique Faciane's attorneys spent two days in court portraying their client as a calm, nurturing caregiver who had no criminal history and a sterling reputation working with children.

But when 22nd Judicial District Judge Richard Swartz sentenced the Lacombe woman to 30 years in prison Friday for manslaughter, his focus was not on Faciane but on Madison Parrott, the 22-month-old foster child who died of multiple blunt force trauma in May 2015.

"I was lawyer shopping. I was going to everyone."

Cody Cotton says he is a victim of Natalie Robinson. Robinson is the woman who was arrested just last week for practicing law without a license. She is now out of jail after posting bond.

Lacombe woman denies guilt in her sentencing hearing for death of foster child

Trenique Faciane pleaded guilty months ago to manslaughter in the death of her 22-month-old foster child, Madison Parrott, but when the former owner of a Slidell day care center appeared in court last week for sentencing, the proceedings took on the aspect of a full-blown trial, with the defendant testifying that the fatal events of May 21, 2015, in fact were a series of accidents.

Judge Richard Swartz's courtroom at 22nd Judicial District Court in Covington was full, with members of Faciane's family on one side and the family of the dead toddler on the other as Faciane's team of three lawyers called witnesses during more than three hours of testimony.

New 'Adoption Option Act' to ease adoptions in Louisiana celebrated at the State Capitol

When Dylan David and his wife Kristine waded into the largely unregulated world of adoption, they lost their money, lost the child to a higher bidder, and had no legal recourse.

The Baton Rouge couple had agreed to pay $2,500 in expenses to an expectant mother who would allow them to adopt her child. The mother kept asking for more money, then they discovered she also had collected $12,000 from another couple, David said. Law enforcement told the couple that the mother broke no laws, mainly because the existing laws covering this situation were so vague.

Judges wrestle over whether Texas mistreats foster kids so badly, it tramples their rights

NEW ORLEANS — A panel of three judges appeared divided Monday on whether Texas has breached the U.S. Constitution in how it treats foster children — and if so, what should be done about it.

A top assistant to Attorney General Ken Paxton and a Houston lawyer who's the lead counsel in a class action suit on behalf of nearly 11,000 children in long-term foster care clashed for an hour at the 5th U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in New Orleans.

A bill to eliminate child support obligations for Louisiana criminal defendants and convicted criminals while they are incarcerated cleared its first hurdle in the Legislature on Tuesday (May 9). The aim is encourage ex-inmates to find jobs upon release, although even the sponsor, Rep. Joe Marino III of Gretna, admitted: "It's not an easy bill" to support.
