Massachusetts lawmakers have approved a $36.5 billion state budget. The house and senate signed off on the compromise spending plan today Monday. The budget includes $39 million in additional funding for the Department of Children and Families, which has been under scrutiny for dangerous lapses in oversight. Democratic Representative Brian Dempsey is the house chair of the Ways and Means Committee. He says the increased funding is designed, in part, to take some of the burden off case workers.

The Child Protective Services (CPS) Division of the Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (TDFPS) released the second of two reports that were created as part of an “Operational Assessment” conducted by The Stephens Group (TSG), a consulting firm based out of New Hampshire. The report purports to represent a comprehensive review of the activities, achievements, and challenges facing CPS, but Breitbart Texas’ review of the report has revealed some glaring omissions in the report’s findings. The report has no mention of abuses of power or unwarranted intrusions on the part of the state agency into the parent-child relationships of some Texas families.
Note: This is true. This is what happens when System Sucks call for reform. It usually benefits them.

Pelletier family is reunited, and DCF must take stock
SIXTEEN-YEAR-OLD Justina Pelletier returned to her parents’ home on Wednesday, ending an unhappy custody dispute that focused a harsh national spotlight on the Massachusetts Department of Children and Families. To the web-driven “Free Justina” movement, the state’s decision to take Pelletier away from her family last year, after a hospital raised concerns that she may have been abused, was a textbook case of an overweening government trampling a family’s rights. That version of events cast aside all nuances, placing the state firmly in the role of villain. But on the most basic level, DCF acted correctly when it responded to a credible allegation of child abuse. Pelletier’s case doesn’t call for limiting DCF’s powers; rather, it shows the need for the agency to develop better ways to evaluate exceptionally tricky cases like this one.

Maine child abuse cases spike more than 50 percent
Note: DHHS is on a fear mongering campaign designed to increase the federal dollars coming into the state for services provided to stolen children. This would give lots of work to lawyers, shrinks and private agencies who profit from child abuse. There is no more child abuse in Maine than there was 3 years ago when Maine was celebrating it's national model child welfare system status. There are just more teachers and doctors reporting every little scrape on the knee and more media attention focusing on the end result instead of that which could actually kelp kids.
And Dr Lawrence Ricci from Spurwink is a fraud. His livelihood revolves around this kind of stuff.

He used to hide under his high chair and even his crib was tented to give him the comfort of the enclosed feeling he sought. Sometimes Timmy would contort his body into what True calls a “tripod” — essentially he would do the downward dog yoga pose but would also gently press his head on the floor for up to 15 minutes at a time. Even more disturbing to the mother of the boy thought to be deaf was when she would pick him up from his special class and he wouldn’t acknowledge her presence.

Fear of social services
Fear of social services
I know social services do a vital and often under appreciated job, but they scare me
Ever since lo was born I've had this fear that he will be taken away
I hear stories of parents being wrongly accused of abuse and the children being removed (there was a lady on my bb it happened to, she did get them back eventually but the heartbreak in the meantime must have been terrible)
Note: This person has a very rational fear, yet the commenters are telling her she's being silly. I don't know if anybody has an account with this website, if so you need to set them straight.

Genocide of Native Americans: A Sociological View
Genocide of Native Americans: A Sociological View
The term Genocide derives from the Latin (genos=race, tribe; cide=killing) and means literally the killing or murder of an entire tribe or people. The Oxford English Dictionary defines genocide as "the deliberate and systematic extermination of an ethnic or national group" and cites the first usage of the term as R. Lemkin, Axis Rule in Occupied Europe, (1944) p.79. "By 'genocide' we mean the destruction of a nation or an ethnic group." The U.N. General Assembly adopted this term and defended it in 1946 as "....a denial of the right of existence of entire human groups." Most people tend to associate genocide with wholesale slaughter of a specific people. However, "the 1994 U.N. Convention on the Punishment and Prevention of the Crime of Genocide, describes genocide beyond outright murder of people as the destruction and extermination of culture." Article II of the convention lists five categories of activity as genocidal when directed against a specific "national, ethnic, racial, or religious group."

SEX TRAFFICKING: HOW I SURVIVED FOSTER CARE
Sex-trafficking laws hadn’t been written yet when I was growing up in the mid 90s, but today sex-trafficking laws are all the rage. The laws are so broad, the authorities have used them to charge women with trafficking themselves. The media warns readers about violent pimps stealing girls from malls, but most victims’ stories are very different. I know this because I was a teen trafficking victim, and my experience reflects much of the research that’s been done with trafficking victims.
