Premature Migrant Baby Found in Border Patrol Facility in Texas

The teenage girl with pigtail braids was hunched over in a wheelchair and holding a bunched sweatshirt when an immigrant advocate met her at a crowded Border Patrol facility in Texas.

She opened the sweatshirt and the advocate gasped. It was a tiny baby, born premature and held in detention instead of where the advocate believes the baby should have been — at a hospital neonatal unit.

Baby forcibly removed from breastfeeding mother by gardaí and social workers

A baby girl was just a day old when she was forcibly removed from her breastfeeding mother at a maternity hospital by gardaí and social workers on foot of an emergency District Court order, the High Court has heard.

The circumstances of the removal caused “huge trauma” to the mother, baby and the professionals involved, Pól Ó Murchú, solicitor for the mother, said in a sworn statement.

During Casey Ray Miller's time as a foster parent in Keizer, one of his foster children — an infant girl — left his care with seven broken bones.

He was convicted of two counts of first-degree criminal mistreatment for injuring the girl and withholding medical treatment. He was sentenced to 13 days in jail and ordered to have no contact with foster children and undergo anger management treatment and probation.

Woman Undergoes First Uterus Transplant In US; When Parenting A Biological Child Is The Only Option

Cleveland Clinic performed the nation’s first uterus transplant Feb. 24 during a nine-hour surgery on a 26-year-old woman with uterine factor infertility (UFI). The patient is reported to be in stable condition following the experimental procedure, which made use of a womb from a deceased organ donor. Around 5 percent of women worldwide have UFI, an irreversible condition most often caused by birth defects or medical treatments requiring removal of the womb.

Every few years we are told about a new “drug plague” in which the drug use of pregnant women supposedly dooms their children – unless, of course, we take the children away. The media said it about crack, and they were wrong. They said it about methamphetamines and they were wrong. Now there’s a new epidemic of hype around pregnant women who use drugs both legal and illegal, from heroin to prescription painkillers. Those stories are wrong, too.

For many mothers, this isn’t even something they’re aware of. Samples are drawn and whisked away for analysis without a word. And for a woman in labor, it’s just one more needle poke, one more test, one more item on a laundry list of things she is ignoring right now. Her attention is elsewhere. On the baby she is delivering.
