Tens of thousands of parents protest across Israel

Tens of thousands of parents gathered at demonstrations across Israel to demand reform in Israel’s childcare system, including improved safeguards to prevent the abuse of young children at schools or daycare centers.

Ten thousand protesters rallied at Tel Aviv’s Azrieli Junction Sunday night, along with thousands more at 24 other demonstrations across the country, following the indictment of a daycare owner and operator.

Family says it reported charged daycare worker to state a year before arrest

After a daycare worker in McKinney was charged by police for injuring three children, one family told WFAA that it reported that same worker a year ago after their child came home with bruises and scratches.

Jessica Joy Wiese, a former employee at the Joyous Montessori school, now faces an injury to a child charge and was booked into the Collin County Jail on Tuesday.

Nearly 90 Texas children died in day care over the last decade, Statesman reports

More than 450 others were sexually abused, according to the Austin newspaper's investigation of the state's oversight of childcare facilities. Gov. Greg Abbott's spokesman said lawmakers should address the issue next year.

Central Illinois couple suing DCFS over handgun ban at home day cares

A central Illinois couple and several gun rights groups have filed a federal lawsuit challenging a statewide ban on handguns in home day cares, arguing the prohibition violates the Second Amendment rights of the operators of the businesses.

The suit was filed Monday against the state and the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services, which sets licensing rules for child care facilities. A spokeswoman for the agency declined to comment on pending litigation.

On Tuesday, Tammy got a call at work—a cattle feedlot—from Child Protective Services. The agency had to meet with her immediately. She and her husband were suspected of child abuse. The daycare center had called CPS to report a bruise on the baby's chest.

House votes to allow parents of children abused at Maine day care center to sue state

Gov. Paul LePage is likely to veto the bill to waive immunity for the DHHS if it passes in the Senate.

The Maine House of Representatives voted Thursday to allow parents whose children attended a day care center in York County to sue the state for not doing enough to protect the children from abuse.
