I applaud the Tribune for the article, "How DCFS failed these kids" (News, Sept. 23), which profiled children who died of neglect or abuse after the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services failed to intervene in time. The story of these children and their terrible deaths is heartbreaking and abhorrent. The cold fact that young children die torturous (and preventable) deaths like this in one of the richest countries in the world is mind-boggling beyond belief. This is the kind of story that required a lot of shoe-leather research and time — the type of article that is rarely seen and needed now more than ever in the pressing times we live in. Thank you.

State agency doesn't have enough workers to protect abused kids
High caseloads and high turnover continue to vex the state Child Protective Service agency's efforts to investigate abuse and neglect allegations of Texas children. And solutions to keep caseworkers on the job protecting children aren't working effectively. Among the counties most affected by those dynamics are Travis, Hays and Williamson. Backlogs in these Central Texas counties are at chronic levels. The problem requires immediate attention from state leaders, including Texas Health and Human Services Commissioner Dr. Kyle Janek, because too many Texas children are at risk of being injured as their cases languish for months without consideration.

Daddy & daughter dances banned -- what's next, no apple pie?
The school system in Cranston, Rhode Island has determined that traditional father-daughter and mother-son activities put on by the school are in violation of the state’s gender discrimination law. Now, I’m a big supporter of Title IX, the federal legislation banning gender discrimination in schools. I want my daughter to have every opportunity – in academics, in sports, in everything – as my son. But Title IX has rational exemptions to the rule, and father daughter dances fall neatly within that exemption. After all, these events are meant to encourage and support our children. To foster and encourage parents to spend an evening with their child at a school endorsed event. So, Federal law absolutely allows for dances and baseball games.

‘My Aunt has Abused her Foster Kids in the Past”
After receiving that disturbing message from Arin, I had to email back and help unfold the sad and heartbreaking story of a veteran foster mother who takes in too many children because she needs the money to live on. This foster mom grows tired of so many young and often emotionally abused kids in the house. Tempers flare. Arin felt bad even telling me some of the worst foster care experiences she has seen among the eight foster kids moving in (and out of) her aunt’s home during the last few years.
Foster Care's Social Media Problem
They're afraid that the kids will contact the parents.
Foster Care's Social Media Problem
Being a typical teenager on Facebook is hard, but the repercussions of a beer-soaked photo or an overshare-y status update seem trivial compared to the things kids in the foster care system have to worry about. Using their real name, posting pictures at distinct locations or even just listing where they go to school — harmless information, for most of us — can make them traceable by estranged family members. Since staying away from social media entirely isn't a realistic (or healthy) solution for an already isolated community of kids, some researchers are looking for a compromise.

Parental Alienation and Persistent Claims of Sexual Abuse Leads to Change of Custody in Tennessee: In re Jonathan S. C-B
Facts: Mother and Father were never married. They lived together, had a child, and separated when Child was 3.5 years old. After what the Court described as a “highly contentious” trial lasting seven days, Mother was named the primary residential parent. Because of a history of substance abuse, Father’s parenting time was to be supervised until Father demonstrated two years of sobriety. Shortly thereafter, Mother filed a motion to suspend Father’s visitation because Child claimed Father had sexually abused him. A lengthy investigation ensued in which the trial court appointed a guardian ad litem and Child was examined by numerous professionals, including a court-appointed expert. After hearing much proof, much of which is painstakingly detailed in the Court’s lengthy opinion, the trial court found by clear and convincing evidence that Father had not sexually abused Child. The trial court’s expert observed that while Father tried to encourage Child to have a positive relationship with Mother, Mother’s goal appeared to be to end Child’s relationship with Father. The trial court found Father and his witnesses to be credible while Mother and her witnesses were not. The trial court named Father as Child’s primary residential parent, gave him sole decision-making authority, and established Mother’s visitation. Mother appealed.

Another CPS Propaganda Lie
This image is being passed around Facebook by the Anti-Abuse mob. It's a horrible image of what appears to be an abused child. The image is being used to incite hatred against you, the victims of CPS by providing a horrific image that will pop into the heads of the normal people when they hear the words abuse or neglect.
The only problem I have with this is that this is not an abused child. This is the result of a fight at a daycare. The injuries were inflicted by a 2 year old girl.

Opposition Grows to British Government’s Parenting Proposal
In England, the anti-father forces are gathering for their fight against paternal involvement in children’s lives. This of course has been going on ever since the Cameron/Clegg government announced its intention to ignore the non-recommendations of its own commission that looked into the matter of child custody and, against all the odds, found everything regarding father-child access to be fine and dandy, thank you. As in so many countries, fathers in England are routinely kicked to the curb by family courts. First, they’re denied primary custody in all but 10% of cases. Those 90% of fathers whom courts render mere visitors to their children find that even that modest status is too much for mothers and the courts that do their bidding. In England as in so many places, if a mother wants to impede or deny access by the child to its father, she can do so with all but complete impunity. Partly as a result of the behavior of family judges, 33% of British children have little or no contact with their fathers.

Kids suffering from mental and physical disabilities are being housed with seniors in Florida nursing homes. The findings are part of an investigation by the Department of Justice. DOJ says the kids civil rights are being denied because they often don’t have access to education and can’t socialize with their peers. In an exclusive interview with Capitol News Service Scott says he wasn’t aware of the situation until this weekend. Scott is ordering the Agency for Health Care Administration and the Department of Children and Families to investigate immediately.
