A small police department in the northwest suburbs had received several calls about a local family, raising the possibility that young children might be living in a dangerous home.

Concerned citizens began contacting the McCullom Lake Police Department in March to relay a number of allegations: The children were playing alone in the street and on the roof of the house, a baby strapped into a car seat was left unattended on the front porch and someone inside the home threatened to beat the children, according to police reports obtained by the Tribune in a public records request.

Email hotline for child abuse claims went unchecked for five years

An email account set up for child abuse claims went unchecked for so long that some of the victims have grown up.

Colorado’s Department of Human Services told Denver’s CBS News an email address that had been set up went unchecked for nearly a half-decade. Once authorities finally noticed the oversight, they discovered more than 100 unread emails pertaining to "concerns of child abuse or neglect.”

NEW TEXTLINE ALLOWS KIDS IN MISSOURI TO REPORT ABUSE

Missouri will be used as a test state for a new text line that could make reporting child abuse easier.

The Childhelp National Child Abuse Hotline launched the first emergency text line in Missouri on February 1 to encourage young people to report child abuse.

Frustrations rise over child abuse reporting hotline with one hotline caller kept on hold for more than four hours

A CALLER to the Northern Territory Government’s child abuse hotline waited on hold for more than four hours while trying to report suspected child abuse before hanging up, parliament has heard.

Figures tabled in parliament showed more than one in five calls to the child abuse hotline ended with the caller hanging up before speaking to an operator.

Government child helpline appears in pornographic content search results, lewd calls received

A government toll-free number for reporting child sexual assault cases has been suspended temporarily after it appeared in pornographic content search, and calls seeking sexual services were received, a senior NCPCR official has said.

The National Commission for Protection of Child Rights officer said an alternative number has been launched, even as the commission tries to put the suspended number back into operation.
