Fundamental legal right often denied parents
Last week, the Michigan Supreme Court refused to hear the case of Ronald McBride, a father whose parental rights to his three children were permanently terminated despite the fact that the juvenile court denied him the right to a lawyer throughout the entire case.
You would think that by now I would not be shocked by things like this but it never ceases to amaze me how the family court system blatantly disregards civil rights and the right to due process. I had also never heard the term "civil death penalty" but that is exactly what it is. I'm so glad that the media is taking an interest in this story. Every day it seems we parental rights advocates are getting one step closer to reforming CPS and the family court system.
ReplyDeleteI love that term because when you lose a child to CPS, it's much like physical death. In fact, I talked with one family that had experienced both and she said in some ways losing her children to CPS was even worse. Although I've never had to deal with that, I can understand what she meant by that.
You do important work and so do I. I work my butt off for parental rights and some two-bit judge just randomly decides who gets to raise their children and who doesn't. They're as corrupt as CPS. We weren't denied attorneys but we might as well have been. They did nothing at all. They were as useless as a bicycle is for a fish. If the financial incentives to remove children was gone, I bet then that parental rights would not be terminated quite so easily. We need to repeal CAPTA and ASFA.
LK, I forgot, I'm going to "steal" this article from you to put on my blog. I want to raise awareness.
