One of those last minute cuts the governor made involved taking away millions of dollars from Child Welfare Services. John Schwada has the video report.
The Bakersfield Californian (bakersfield.com) reported this yesterday morning. The investigation side of that department, which is where they're cutting, spends too much time investigating old, stupid, or already investigated cases instead of focusing on the serious cases. Now they'll have to focus. A lot fewer general neglect (~1000/mon) and emotional abuse (~100/mon) cases that shouldn't be investigated very much. Too many kids at Jamison, not enough evaluated out immediately (typical evaluated out should be 66% but they're only evaluating out 25%). That's why they missed saving the kid who had his eyes bitten out, too little time on a tough case too much time on pointless cases. Cut! Cut! Cut!
