Officials: Suffolk man taps child abuse hotline
Faulty security allowed a Suffolk County man to acquire a list of more than 200 phone numbers of callers to the state's anonymous child abuse hotline, according to a report issued Monday by state Inspector General Joseph Fisch.
The 33-page report details a litany of record-keeping and security troubles at the New York State Office of Children and Family Services, and accuses the state agency of improperly saving records of expunged child abuse cases it should have shredded and destroying telephone records it was supposed to keep.
