EDITORIAL: Don’t child’s rights deserve protection?

Re: “Child abusers win one in the 9th Circuit” (editorial, 12-30).

Your editorial is inaccurate. You failed to mention a caseworker and an armed law enforcement officer seized a 9-year-old child from the classroom and confined and interrogated her for two hours. She denied she was abused by the defendant for the first hour of questioning.

The girl stated, “Finally, I just started to say yes to whatever he said,” when it was apparent they would not let her leave.

  1. What they do to children is unreal. They are relentless and go after them until they say whatever it is they want them to say. Are you familiar at all with the Little Rascals Daycare nightmare? My husband grew up about 20 miles from there and it's just a small town in North Carolina (Edenton) where not much happens. The daycare employees spent many years in prison because of the false allegations of sexual abuse. They tormented those children with their questioning for months and months, telling them they can't go home until they admit what happened, blah blah blah. Well, now they're out because these children went to the proper authorities and told them this DID NOT HAPPEN. They've all been exonerated! They're interrogation tactics are abuse in and of itself. They terrify the children and use threats to get what they want. Children are easily manipulated. That's why every parent should teach their children how to stand up to these bullies, demand their parents be present or even an attorney, and sit there with their mouths closed. Don't say a word no matter what they say or don't say. If my kids were home, that's what I would do and it's what I recommend to my friends also.
