'No one should be forced to give up their child.'
'This is horrible.'
Babia Daria has cerebral palsy. Her parents can't afford the bills. The province has a program to help, but it's tapped out. Her father says they've been given one option: Give up custody.
Nothing surprises me, with reference to this rotten system.
ReplyDeleteI am sure CPS Services, would give Foster Carers, large amounts of money to support this Child.
No Parents should be ever put in a position, to have to give up their Child, under such cruel circumstances.
Surely this is not in the best interest of the Child, to be taken from a loving home?
Alison Stevens Parents Against Injustice.
Does it ever happen the other way -- that the parent(s) don't want the cerebral palsied child?
ReplyDeleteIs the parent allowed to give him (her) away?
Are there people/orgamizations that are willing to take such children?
Family-centred Care must be prioritized and solidified by review of current Policy which is often counter-productive in its vision towards individuals with disability. If we are able to salvage the lives and core values of families who are already facing tremendous strain with the diagnosis of developmental disability - and/or medical issues - we offer this model to others whole-heartedly in celebration of the life of our beautiful little girl.
ReplyDeleteDue to the long-standing circumstances that plagued our family, an Amendment to Legislation was finally effected in December 2006 to the Family Support for Children with Disabilities Act (FSCD) of Alberta:

Section 2-3, Manual Amendments: Policy and Procedures in Family Centred Supports and Services:
"The Family Support for Children with Disabilities Program to have separate legislation from that of child protection services."
I continue to be appauled that Ministries have not learned from its grave errors and lack of ethical judgement that would force solid, loving natural parents into surrendering guardianship in the misguided hope of offering their child a chance at life.
