Facts on Orphan Trains
According to New York's Children's Aid Society, the Orphan Train Movement was established by the Society's founder Charles Loring Brace in 1853 with the end of the movement between the 1900s and the 1920s. The idea behind the Orphan Train Movement is described by the Children's Aid Society as the placing of orphaned and neglected children from the slums of New York with families from small farms and farming communities in the Midwest where they could become integral family members and eventually be adopted.
