Catholic School Rejects Child Because Of Lesbian Parents
A preschooler is caught in the middle of a fight between religion and sexuality. Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic School, in Boulder, has refused to readmit a preschooler because the child has two moms.
Moms aren't in compliance with the school's religious teaching. The church pays for the school probably even subsidizes the tuition. They get to determine whether you can go there.
Unfortunately those city and state ordinances are void under the US Constitution. One amendment prohibits Congress, another (the 14th) prohibits the states from creating a state religion and they do provide religious instruction in those schools. Any law requiring that they take the kid runs afoul of that. If they want to send the kid to school there are public schools and also they can start their own school and religion. They know the rules, they just don't want them to apply to them. It's not like they have a voucher system and the school accepted only some vouchers.

ReplyDeleteThe school, which accepts many non-catholics, is in violation of City and State ordinances against discrimination.
ReplyDeleteThis is not a freedom to associate, as was the case in the Boy Scouts, but a nasty bit of prejudice.

ReplyDeleteThis is not a freedom to associate, as was the case in the Boy Scouts, but a nasty bit of prejudice by a bigoted Archbishop.
