Monitors note improvements in Atlanta foster care
The rate of maltreatment of children in Atlanta foster care has reached its lowest level since monitors began tracking the system.
A report released on Monday by the advocacy group Children's Rights found that for the first time since 1998, the percentage of children in Department of Family and Childrens Services custody has dropped below the benchmark of 0.57% require by a court order. At 0.42%, the rate of maltreatment at the end of 2010 is nearly three times lower than it was three years ago.
