What about the rights of the child?
The current discussion concerning low-IQ parents and their desire to raise their children is disturbing. The question they are asking is why they are not permitted to raise their children. Isn't it their right to try?
Government social workers do not enjoy apprehending children. They do not swoop down willy-nilly and simply grab kids. They do so only after completing a thorough assessment of the family situation, including the parents' abilities, past parenting history if any, and other available family supports. The story in The Vancouver Sun clearly indicates that the mother was assessed and found wanting when it comes to the day-to-day care of a child.
Note: Bullshit.
