I-Team: County Spends Big to Defend Child Welfare System
In 2006, the National Center for Youth Law, an Oakland-based child advocacy firm, filed suit against Clark County on behalf of all children harmed in its care.
Instead of using county attorneys to defend the case, it hired a private law firm. Cost to date? More than half a million dollars. Clark County points out a substantial portion of the fees are costs associated with records requests from the NCYL, including time spent redacting confidential information.
