Abuse, neglect cases drop in county
One report of child abuse or neglect was received every eight minutes in Oregon last year, with a total of 65,400 reports recorded in the state, an increase from 2007 figures.
More than 15 percent of those calls resulted in investigations in which children were victims. Statewide and locally, the total number of victims is declining.
The victim rate in Douglas County declined from 13 per 1,000 children in 2006 to 10.8 per 1,000 last year, involving a total of 243 children.
