Children's Services Challenged by Fatality Inquiry Judge

Children's Services Challenged by Fatality Inquiry Judge

A fatality inquiry judge is calling for improvements by Alberta Children's Services to help prevent future deaths of children in foster care.

The death of thirteen year old Samantha Martin drew headlines when her mother went to court and won permission to have her name released and to open the debate about care she received. Samantha, born with a very rare genetic defect, was surrendered into provincial care when she only weeks old because her family believed she would have greated access to medical attention. She returned to her family at age thirteen but died six months later in December 2006.
