State asks judge to toss challenge to foster-care law

The Arkansas attorney general’s office asked a Pulaski County Circuit judge Friday to throw out a lawsuit challenging the constitutionality of a law that bans unmarried cohabiting couples from fostering or adopting children, arguing in part that no child has a recognized right to be adopted or placed in foster care.
