Children alone for days, parents dead in locked room at Oregon home
Smith said the state Department of Human Services took the baby into protective custody, and the other children were with relatives.
Note: Someone posted this article to a newsgroup, pointing out this sentence from it. The question is raised, why did the baby go into protective custody and the older children went to live with relatives? The answer is suggested, babies are more adoptable and that's where the money is.
Kudos to this person. This is an interesting observation.
