Dad furious over abuse allegations

Dad furious over abuse allegations

When Michel Villeneuve's 3-year-old son disrobed to hop into the pool at his weekly Friday night swimming lesson at the Mississauga YMCA, his father saw a heat rash on his chest, but the lifeguard saw a potential sign of abuse.

The aquatic director and two lifeguards pulled the 3-year-old out of the lesson and away from his father to question him about how he got the red mark on his chest.

The boy originally told his father in front of the guards that he had scraped himself on the side of the pool, but upon further questioning alone with the guards, the child eventually answered "yes" when asked if his mother hit him.

Rites and wrongs - alleged abuse in the Mormon church

Rites and wrongs - alleged abuse in the Mormon church

It was the late 1960s and, until then, Jane had been brought up by parents whom she says were alcoholic and involved in crime. They'd attracted the attention of Mormon missionaries who made increasing visits to the family home. Jane says that in a misguided bid to get rid of the missionaries, her parents agreed to get baptised. But when both ended up doing time in jail, the church stepped in to offer her care. Jane says several foster parents, all from the church, used her as a sex object, repeatedly violating her and forcing her to perform oral sex on them.

FROM THE COMMITTEE ON WAYS AND MEANS

Note: I know this was a few days ago. Funny thing. I go through hundreds of news articles a day. This is the first I've seen of this. I don't believe it made the mainstream media. Why? Either that or I missed it. Typicolly when there is a story this important, IE the Federal Government looking into anything foster care related, I would come across it several times.

CAS Executive Director says youth should protest in a Gymnasium

The Executive Director of the Sudbury Manatoulin Children's Aid Society, Colette Provost, said she would have preferred to see the demonstration held in a venue such as a school gymnasium. "My concern is that this process really flirts with the danger of children being exploited by other people for their own purposes," she said. "I would have preferred to see this take place in a more child-friendly forum."

So much for our Rights to public protest. Imagine that, an Executive Director of a Children's Aid Society saying that youth should protest in a venue where their voices will not be heard and where they will not be seen. Very disturbing.
