Dr. Peter Gray is tackling the issue of compulsory education, forced schooling and a child’s freedom in a series of blog posts. Gray is a research professor at Boston University who focuses on evolutionary, educational development. He is author of the book “Free to Learn” and has stated that he believes the public school system is the equivalent of prison. In one blog post on Psychology Today, Dr. Gray discusses that compulsory education is forced schooling, therefore children do not like attending school because they are robbed of their freedom. He also argues the point that children who are forced to go to school against their will, ultimately lose the ability to self-teach themselves.
