Addressing DCF’s systemic ills
THERE MAY BE no other job in state government that’s as inherently complex and vital as that of a social worker at the Department of Children and Families. The state agency has an almost quixotic mandate: to examine the social condition of families who are accused of child abuse or neglect, determine if in fact kids are at risk, and then to do everything in its power to protect them — a universe of about 60,000 maltreated children.
