Seven inmates of a government observation home, aged between 15 and 18, escaped on Friday night by prising open the iron window grill of their dormitory. The staff of the home for children in conflict with law alerted the Madurai city commissioner and nearby police stations about the incident and a search is on for the seven inmates. Such incidents are nothing new and activists have time and again sought comprehensive reforms in the running of homes for children in conflict with law.
