Maine on Verge of Losing Child Abuse Victim Program
The state of Maine is at risk of losing its only program designed to help in the prosecution of child abuse cases because of a lack of funding. Last year the Child Advocacy Center in Lewiston handled 90 cases of kids who were physically or sexually abused or who had witnessed violent crime. The center's forensic interviewing techniques are widely accepted around the country--and many states are well ahead of Maine in adopting them. Those who work in Maine law enforcement are worried the loss of the program will leave kids at risk.
