Imagine prone restraint being used on your child
Although 15 states across the country have outlawed the practice of prone restraint in classrooms, the Minnesota House recently put forth a bill recommending the continuation of this controversial form of restraint for another year. For more study. As if the "data gathering" here did not involve practicing a potentially dangerous hold on small children to see what happens.

ReplyDeleteStated, "The Wrong Way" and the type of restraint that commonly leads to death. Imagine the weight of an adult sitting on the back of a small child, pulling their arms backward and upward, with throat pressed against the floor, preventing breathing.
TX outlawed Prone Restraints on children, long after outlawed on death row, but group homes are repeatedly cited for improper use of restraint.
In 2003, Austin Statesman identified 19 children's death by restraint. One was nine years old.

If a parent caused a child's death by improper use of restraints, parents go to jail; workers are fired, allowing them to work elsewhere with children.

The cites to the death by restraint the former commenter cites to. Most of the companies were trained only in standing restraint. The staff were never trained how to restrain a person on the floor. You can restrain a person safely in a prone restraint these agencies apparently did not feel it was necessary to train staff how to do so.
