Bill would require removal of abused children
Legislation dubbed “Omaree’s Law” after a 9-year-old Albuquerque boy allegedly killed by his mother would require the Children, Youth and Families Department to take immediate custody of children who show certain signs of abuse.
Note: This is what we refer to as Knee Jerk Legislation. It's the kind of bill that comes around in reaction to a major fuck up on the part of the child protective industry. It's like saying, "one bad apple makes it more difficult for the whole bunch."
