Editorial: Overdue accountability

Editorial: Overdue accountability

The Sacramento County social worker who handled the abuse report involving the 4-year-old did not talk to the person who reported the case to Child Protective Services. The worker did not talk to medical personnel who had examined Jahmaurae. The worker did not contact people familiar with Jahmaurae's family or review the case with a CPS supervisor. It appears that at almost every step involving CPS's handling of this case, department procedures were not followed.
----
Note: Ok SHEEPLE, same old story, worker doesn't do a full investigation, tragic ending, bla bla bla. It's time to band together and get CPS to do more to protect children right???

Actually, I'm posting this pro-CPS propaganda so that you will have an idea of what to look for, as harsh and uncaring it might sound. Considering that the death of any child is a horrible tragedy, and if murdered, those responsible should get what is coming to them. Whenever you read or hear the words, "CPS should have done more to protect that child," you can bet your sweet ass that more children will be taken into foster care in that area out of fear of the public backlash, where the ignorant masses, led by a few loud mouth feminist groups, cry out against CPS for not doing enough to save one life. This kind of situation insures that more money will be pumped into the system, more workers will be hired, more foster parents will be recruted, more kids will be unjustly taken into foster care, and more System Sucks will get nice little state contracts, etc.

It's called Public Relations. Leads to the ever popular justification for the "take the child and run" mentality and the all time favorite excuse of the child protective worker, ie. "Better to be safe then sorry."

Don't you ever tell the stories of children saved in care? Yes, there are problems with the system. NO ONE can deny that. But what about the thousands of kids saved from extreme physical, emotional, and sexual abuse? Not all foster homes are the low-life type you are portraying. I'm so sorry you only see the negative homes. But some people ARE doing the best for kids even at their own personal sacrifice. To give everything including your heart on a platter to love a child that you may never see again takes a strong will and a strong heart. Those seeking to adopt kids in foster care are often escaping the high costs of domestic infant and foreign adoptions. Being poor and not able to have kids does NOT make these bad foster parents. Or that they want to "legally kidnap" the kids...It only means those people have no choice but to turn to the system to have a family of their own and take their chances that a child is out there waiting. Those foster parents have to rely on a flawed system too. They have to be able to give their heart and be willing to adopt if (and only if) the system has deemed the parents unfit. So why portray all the horror stories and none of the good? It's biased.

Since there hasn't actually been much to post the last few days, (which is a good thing I suppose)I figured I'd respond here so that nobody misses it. I'll take it point by point as this is a perfect example of the blind support that society gives to this issue that allows CPS to thrive.

Don't you ever tell the stories of children saved in care?

No.

Yes, there are problems with the system.

Agreed.

NO ONE can deny that.

There are many who do.

But what about the thousands of kids saved from extreme physical, emotional, and sexual abuse?

You're blowing things out of proportion. I don't deny that the system saves lives. I don't deny that some children are better off in foster care. Sadly the current system is a mess. They take more kids then they need to and children do better with their families. It's as simple as that. Many families can be helped, unfortunately CPS acts in lots of those cases with a "take the child and run" mentality.

As for kids who are really abused and neglected, and not necessarily by the standards of the modern day self-righteous hypocrite, by all means, protect them.

Not all foster homes are the low-life type you are portraying.

I never said they were.

There is a sad misconception in the world today. Foster parents are typically glorified in the media. Yet the typical foster child gets bounced through an average of 14 different homes often because the foster parents can no longer handle the children they claim to stand behind, or their abused or neglected, etc. Lots of them end up in group homes. Many of them are heavily medicated. And they are more likely to be abused or neglected while in foster care. Yes there are good foster homes but there just aren't enough of them to go around. They take too many children who do not need to be taken. It's time people start telling the truth about the system.

I'm so sorry you only see the negative homes.

Why would I want to pick on good foster parents?

But some people ARE doing the best for kids even at their own personal sacrifice.

And some of them do it for the money, self-glorification and an adoption agenda. And lets not forget the pedophiles who use the foster care system to gain access to children. For example, the one in the news story that this person commented on.

To give everything including your heart on a platter to love a child that you may never see again takes a strong will and a strong heart.

Yeah. To take a kid that doesn't belong to you takes a special kind of person, doesn't it?

Those seeking to adopt kids in foster care are often escaping the high costs of domestic infant and foreign adoptions.

Interesting. So you're saying that money is a factor.

Being poor and not able to have kids does NOT make these bad foster parents.

Being poor does not make one a bad parent, yet families are ripped apart for this very reason all the time. You speak from total ignorance.

Or that they want to "legally kidnap" the kids...

It only means those people have no choice but to turn to the system to have a family of their own and take their chances that a child is out there waiting.

There are thousands upon thousands of children stuck in the system who will never be adopted because they are not perfect in every way. The heart galleries are full of them. http://www.adoptuskids.org/Child/ChildSearch.aspx They even advertise them in the papers every now and then.

Those foster parents have to rely on a flawed system too.

True.

They have to be able to give their heart and be willing to adopt if (and only if) the system has deemed the parents unfit.

And here lies the problem. The system, (as it realistically IS) doesn't have enough insight to make that determination in regards to the removal or placement of children. Workers lie, blow things out of proportion, and dump them off with any foster parent who will take them, qualified or not, The children are the ones who pay the price.

The foster care system is no better or safer than an abusive home. Often times it's much worse.

So why portray all the horror stories and none of the good? It's biased.

Because it's time somebody starts telling the truth.

Justice for Families

It is five days since The Times launched its campaign to open up the family courts and make social services more accountable for the removal of children from their families. The enormous response so far has bolstered our view that this is a vital debate. Many parents, but also lawyers, social workers and members of the medical profession have written in to sound the alarm about different aspects of the child protection system.

Child Protective Services: CPS & Police Abuse Constitution

Child Protective Services (CPS) can take your children too. CPS has come to believe they are above the law and the Constitution, that they do not need a search warrant to come into your home, label you as a child abuser for any reason and make you a criminal based upon their opinion alone, take your children away in a paddy wagon, and put your kids into foster homes pending a court hearing where CPS will try their best to win and permanently take custody of your kids. If CPS loses, they will continue to fight you, slandering your family and listing you as a child abuser in government databases. CPS is an abusive government agency spiraling completely out of control. It's time to shut them down. The removal of more than 400 children from the FLDS ranch in west Texas, has put CPS under the microscope. That case has led others to wonder if they can do that to FLDS children, can CPS do that to my children? CBS 42 investigative reporter, Nancy Wilson, shows us one family who says the same thing happened to them, and eight years later they are still trying to clear their names. This is the Gates family, Gary and Melissa have 13 children, 11 of them adopted. They saw a need for kids from a variety of backgrounds who need love in a stable home. Imagine their surprise when 11 government employees, 6 police officers and 5 CPS workers, showed up on their doorstep. The school called CPS when they discovered that the Gates pinned a baggy with food wrappers inside the shirt of one of the kids that was caught stealing. It included a two page explanation and who to call if there were questions. The school did make a phone call, to CPS. Gates was shocked to find CPS workers in his home uninvited, especially when CPS refused to leave. "How can you take 13 kids? That opened my eyes to a whole new way of government." - Gary Gates CPS & Police completely ignored the 4th Amendment Constitutional rights of Americans, entered the Gates home, and took away all 13 of their children, without a court order, after a mere phone call. This is a very similar situation to the FLDS raid, except that the phone call that Texas Department of Family and Protective Services (CPS) used to kidnap the FLDS children was a hoax. Later in court, the reason CPS gave for taking the Gate's children was that CPS felt that Mr. Gates was uncooperative with them taking away his children, and his unwillingness to cooperate put the children at risk. Fortunately, the judge ordered the children returned immediately. An independent psychologist conducted his own review and wrote a glowing report, saying, "I've never said this about anyone I have evaluated: I admire the Gates, I would not hesitate to place my own children in their care." However, even though the judge ordered the case dismissed, and the independent review was praiseworthy, CPS did not care. CPS called the praiseworthy review disappointing and continued to fight the Gates anyway, listing them in the state's central registry as child abusers. Even though the Gates were innocent, CPS claims that because their opinion is that the the father emotionally emotionally abused one child by punishing him, and since all the kids saw it, that equals 13 counts of abuse. And, because the wife did not stop it, that equals another 13 counts of abuse for a grand total of 26 counts of child abuse. The Gates were never charged with any crime, they are guilty based solely on the opinion of CPS. US politicians, such as Barack Obama, Hillary Clinton, John McCain, George Bush, Mitt Romney, Mike Huckabee, do not represent any true change for 2008 elections or US government. One of the few congressmen consistently standing up for and voting for the Constitution, the rights of the people, and liberty, is Republican Congressman Ron Paul. If you don't know who he is, take some time to watch some of his videos on YouTube, or read his book The Revolution, you just may be amazed like the rest of us. It's time to take America back and live by the Constitution, before it collapses as a bankrupt empire.

How to Recognize an Abused Child?

Note: I just came across this in an article directory. What do you think?
----
Author: Andy Smith

How to recognize that a child is being abused at home or by somebody else? You come across many children in your neighborhood. Have you ever thought about the abuse a child may be getting? Most of us do not, because we do not look for signs that tell us that a child is abused. If we can do that, we can save a child's precious childhood. Let us talk about that.

If the child is undergoing physical torture, you may find the signs of that on child's body. The injuries may not be bandaged. Watch for a burn sign, or red marks of beating, or any other mark that tells you that the child has suffered them not while playing or by accident, but by deliberate torture. If needed, ask the child. He/she may not answer and hesitate. You may see the fear in his/her eye when you ask that question. You should be then sure that the child is getting abused.

If the child is looking afraid or watchful at all the times, it means that the child expects the cane to fall on him/her at anytime. Normally healthy children are carefree. But an abused child is not carefree. That child may be asked to get up from sleep and hit mercilessly by his/her parents for some fault that was so small that any normal person could ignore it as childish act. But parents/abusers do not feel like that. They believe that the child should be perfect and deserves to be disciplined whenever a small mistake is made.

This is a very sad world and some people are cruel beyond belief. Please look for psychological signs in a child that signal something wrong. Please report to the nearest police station, if you suspect that the child is being abused. By ignoring that we are partners in the crime. Would you like to be partner is the crime of child abuse? Please help the unfortunate abused children. Please protect them from vicious people.
