Crete boy doesn't get the breaks in foster system
From day one, the odds for survival were stacked against Kevin Johnson.
He was born one of 13 children in a single-parent home where allegations of physical and sexual abuse ran rampant. His mother was forced, first, to give up his siblings and then 1 1/2-year-old Kevin, according to court records.
That's when Kevin entered the foster-care system - and a glimmer of hope for his future emerged.

In that same once-happy home, which was known for the uplifting sermons that were shouted from a pulpit in the basement, Kevin's life came to a tragic end this week.
