The Sixth Amendment guarantee that the accused is to have the 'ASSISTANCE OF COUNSEL." That means your attorney must do whatever you say to provide 'relevant' evidence to a jury. Even then, a judge can find you contemptible. We shouldn't all have to become attorneys! Some people may just want to work for McDonalds all their lives. It's their perogative. Your attorney won't cooperate either since he/she is sleeping in the same bed.
