A case for self-defense against Child Protective Services
In an ongoing case described in three articles at Reason, Danielle Meitiv, a Maryland mother of two was reported to Child Protective Services for letting her children, ages 10 and 6, play in a park two blocks from their house and walk to and from unsupervised by an adult. Two agents showed up at her house to inform her that this is illegal. (In fact, it is not illegal, let alone immoral.) She then called CPS and was told that “judges have interpreted the law to include parks—in spite of the fact that the language is VERY clear about enclosed spaces—so a cop could charge us $500, or a judge could give us 30 days in jail, if my daughter is without supervision at the park.” We have a mother who wants her children to learn to operate independently and get some exercise. The state, on the other hand, would rather use the fact that she is not with them every step of the way as a pretext for extortion or kidnapping and caging. The reasoning here boggles the mind; “spend time with your kids or we'll make sure you can't for a month!,” say the agents of the state.

In the world of group homes, however, where staff who are often undertrained and overwhelmed try to manage the severe behaviors that foster youth disproportionately exhibit, calling the police, for some, has become a go-to method for controlling kids. A new law that went into affect the first of the new year is trying to change all that by forestalling excessive calls to police and, in so doing, mitigating the stigmatizing effect that contact with law enforcement invariably has on these youngsters.

The Ethics of International Adoption?
It is a truism of American life that talking about race makes many of us uncomfortable. Less well-acknowledged, though no less true, is that the practice of adoption makes us uncomfortable too. After all, it was standard practice through much of the 20th century that adoptive parents hid the fact from their own children. Writing the cover story in the New York Times magazine section, Maggie Jones brings these two issues together in an essay titled "Her Choice Was No Choice at All."

RIP Leonard Henderson - The Grandfather of Family Rights
I am devastated after receiving the following message from Roz McAllister of the American Family Rights Association. We lost one of the greatest, the Grandfather of Family Rights and co-founder of AFRA himself Leonard Henderson who died of natural causes on January 1st 2015.
RIP my friend. You will be missed.
It is with great sadness that I must inform everyone of the death of the remaining founder of American Family Rights Association (www.familyrightsassociation.com).
Leonard was a dear friend of many. His leadership created the best source of help for parents who are under attack by CPS agencies. His facebook groups cover everything from news to help groups in many states, and reform and activist groups.
Leonard suffered with a lung disease for many years. He has been bedridden for the last few years. On January 1st, he could finally catch his breath and fill his lungs with the crystal clear air of Heaven, for there was waiting for him a very special place!
Goodbye my friend and "Big Brother". See you later! My heart and prayers goes out to Leonard and his family, and we all thank him for the help he brought to the families who have become victims of CPS.
RIP my friend. You will be missed.

There has been a child welfare system crisis every decade in Illinois since the 1970s. The current focus on what ails the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is, at last, about the kids, not their presumably awful parents. That’s fortunate, because the only way to change the child welfare system, including its understaffed, yet expensive, residential care component, is to stop blaming the parents and start working with them constructively to keep families together.

Our First Foster Care Placement - OMFG I'm so sorry for posting this link.
I'm sorry for posting this link and I suggest you hold onto your lunch before clicking, but it's just so cute how new foster parents are just so naive in thinking that they're saving the world one child at a time when really their aiding and abetting the Child Protective Industry in a child trafficking operation. It cracks me up when a new foster parent tells you how they're doing God's work when they're really making a deal with the devil. And she doesn't even show a bit of empathy for the real parents.
A week down the road a bio-family member will come forward, she'll go into a panic, loose the kid and scream out against the injustice! She'll fight tooth and nail,
You mark my words!
Yes, you read that right...we have our first foster care placement! This last week has been a whirlwind and I still can't believe we have a baby girl at home now.
