After CPS Removal of Four-Year-Old Upheld, Kaufman County Family Will Request Court Reconsideration
It’s been over a month since Child Protective Services (CPS) removed four-year-old Kaleb (Drake) Pardo from his home. Now, several weeks after a court ruling that favored CPS, his parents and their lawyers are preparing to challenge the court’s decision.
The ruling on July 2 granted CPS temporary managing conservatorship.
If the family does nothing, the case could last another year before the permanency hearing, according to CPS policy.

Will Texas Keep Fighting Foster Care Reform?
It’s been more than three years since a federal judge ruled that Texas dumps some of the state’s most vulnerable children into a foster care system “where rape, abuse, psychotropic medication and instability are the norm.”
Following a 2015 trial in a lawsuit brought by children’s advocacy groups, federal district judge Janis Jack of Corpus Christi also concluded that state leaders can’t be trusted to reform the system on their own. Her blistering, 260-page verdict delivered in December 2015 accused state officials of deep-sixing an internal review that revealed “staggering” failures in child abuse investigations. She scolded one state witness who attempted to manipulate department data, including lowering child fatality stats. The judge chastised another state expert who, in an attempt to debunk the plaintiffs’ claims, further traumatized a teenage girl who’d already been battered by the system.

Complaint: Edinburg woman posed as CPS worker
An Edinburg woman faces a felony charge after she allegedly tried to remove a child from her brother’s home while posing as a Child Protective Services investigator, according to a criminal complaint.
Pharr police arrested Candy Sue Moody Salinas, 27, on July 4 in connection to an April 18 incident in which police were called to a Pharr residence and told Moody had identified herself as a CPS employee and tried removing her brother’s child from the home.

Judge upholds CPS decision to remove child for possible medical child abuse
Four year- old Drake Pardo who was removed from his Kemp home by court order on June 20 will remain in Child Protective Service’s custody according to a judge ruling on Tuesday, despite the family’s claim that the removal was “illegal”.
422nd District Judge Mike Chitty ruled with CPS to allow the agency sole conservatorship of the child pending further care and testing provided by Children’s Medical Center of Dallas.

Four-Year-Old Illegally Removed From Homeschool Family by CPS
On June 20, Child Protective Services (CPS) illegally removed Drake Pardo (age four) from his family, alleging an “emergency” despite having delayed for nearly two weeks since initial contact with the family. The Pardo family (a homeschool family and members of the Texas Home School Coalition) is being represented by Texas Home School Coalition (THSC) attorneys Chris Branson and Julie Jacobson.
On June 7, a CPS caseworker left a business card on the Pardo family’s door. After refusing to communicate with the family’s attorney for nearly two weeks, CPS showed up at the family’s door to remove Drake.

Sherin Mathews' father testifies he was 'driven by fear' when he put daughter's body in Richardson culvert
If he had a second chance to save his adopted daughter's life, Wesley Mathews said Tuesday that he would handle things differently. But the Richardson father said crippling fear prevented him from seeking emergency help the night Sherin Mathews died.
During the second day of his trial, Mathews took the stand to describe his actions after the 3-year-old died in October 2017.

Former Texas probation officer charged in adoption effort
Authorities say a North Texas probation officer fabricated records and sought to revoke the probation of a pregnant woman whose child the officer wanted to adopt.
An investigation by Texas Rangers determined 38-year-old Lakisha Nicole McKnight sought to benefit from revoking the woman’s probation and denying her parental rights upon the birth of the child.
