Toddler in foster care comes home to grandparents

Most of these have been posted before. Here they are in order.

After a two-year battle, an Enumclaw couple is about to be reunited with their granddaughter. It's a stunning turn of events in a bitter custody case that the KING 5 Investigators have been following for months. A judge has just ruled the child is leaving foster care to be with family.

Just hit play and watch. Several video's will play in succession. And when you are watching this, remember one thing...

They don't all have a happy ending.

Cuts threaten child welfare gains

Child welfare in Georgia has made remarkable progress in serving its most vulnerable children and families in recent years. This progress will be jeopardized if the budget cuts proposed by the governor are implemented. The greatest victims will be those who are least able to protect themselves, the children who are at risk of abuse and neglect.

Triage at the White House -- Are Children at Risk Merely an "Additional Issue"?

Yet the USA's child protection "system" is a case study in broken bureaucracy. With 2,200 individual jurisdictions, with mountains of inconsistent rules and procedures, this fractured patchwork of purported protection has created barriers that actually prevent children from reaching safe home environments or gaining crucial access to effective judicial remedies.

A 2008 study by the child advocacy organization First Star found that state confidentiality policies regarding child fatalities and near-fatalities often protect agencies and perpetrators over children. When states were graded on this problem, ten flunked, among them Maryland, Pennsylvania, Vermont and Tennessee.

- Another First Star study found that most states do not provide abused and neglected children with adequate legal representation, leaving their voices muffled while decisions are made about their futures. When graded, fifteen states flunked, among them states from which candidates in the last election hailed -- Illinois, Delaware, and Alaska.

Family planning will save our economy?

There are lots of ways to stimulate an economy and American taxpayers are about to learn about some of them as Congress and President Obama study an $825 billion package ostensibly aimed to do just that.

Whether building roads or fixing bridges is the best way to spark the economy back into a roar will be a subject of debate in the coming days and there certainly are solid arguments on both sides.

At least one such provision, however, seems shaky from the get-go.

A provision that would divert millions of stimulus dollars into family-planning services seems to be intended more for ideological purposes than the pragmatic needs of a country needing to get laid-off workers back on payrolls and paying taxes.

The state of Oklahoma is working on legislation that would finally put an end to these sorts of demands from biological parents, exorbitant expectations that are being lumped in as part of the adoption "fees" parents-to-be are going into debt to pay.

Adoption: A Path of the Heart

Hello everybody.

We've picked on the blogs of foster parents. We've picked on the blogs of babystealers and you know how much I love picking on some of these blogs. Well now that Legally Kidnapped is in it's terrible two's, you'd think that we'd seen it all.

But not quite, apparently. Until now that is.

I click on this link that I get in an email earlier today and I come to the blog of another adoptive parent, who apparently just happened to get a job working for the adoption agency or something.

First I direct you to a recent post. So hold on to your lunch and Click Here!.

And here is the link to the blog: Adoption: A Path of the Heart

Un-fucking-believable!

And I do gotta thank mamabear for sending me this one.

It's Party Time!!!

Legally Kidnapped turns 2 years old today.

Exposing the Child Protective Industry for what it is since January 25th 2007.

Yes folks, two years ago today I was so pissed off at a couple of Social Worker's that I created this blog. Of course I quickly got over it, and Legally Kidnapped became something much better. It became a voice for the victims of Child Protective Services and Foster Care. It became a popular and important part of the Family Rights movement. And above all, it became the avenue from which I have been able to meet and make friends with many truly wonderful people.

I also want to take this special opportunity to thank all of the social workers who made this blog possible. So, Sheila, Cheryl, Kathy, Ericka, Kristen, Sara and especially you Brian (the System Suck) I want you all to know that you were truly my inspiration for this. Without all of you this blog would never have been created. Without you, I would still fall under the misguided belief that you people are out to protect children. Thanks to you, I now know better.

I should also note that yesterday was the busiest day Legally Kidnapped has ever had. So help me to continue to spread the word by spreading the link.

Gov. M. Jodi Rell said she is disappointed that Susan Hamilton, the commissioner of the state's beleaguered child welfare department, has been charged with drunken driving, but added that she believes the incident was "an aberration."

Note: She should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law. This person should be the shining example the rest of us should be able to follow. She could have gotten into an accident and killed a child for crying out loud. Turns out, she's no better than the rest of us. Sure it could be a simple mistake, a one time deal, whatever. But real parents would be put through the ringer for such behavior. She'll get away with nothing more than a minimal slap on the wrist because not only do they give special treatment to system insiders, but she could probably have the cops children taken away. You wait and see.

Welcome AlphaInventions Readers

As many of you have figured out, the main goal of Legally Kidnapped is to spread awareness, by providing an alternate yet realistic and credible view of the problems that families and children have faced in their dealings with the Child Protective Industry. Over the last couple months, LK has enjoyed a modest 150 to 200 unique visitors a day. That number has been slowly growing over time and coming from various sources, reaching about 250, peaking out at just under 300 one day. So last night, I looked at around 9 PM, and saw that LK had about 150 visitors which was about normal for that time of day. I looked again, just over an hour later and that number had doubled, which was a pretty good boost. So I investigated.

It turned out that all of this extra traffic was coming from a single source, which a good friend and fellow blogger over at Stop Corrupt DSS had turned me onto. So I played around with it for a couple days and moved on. Then all of a sudden, last night, Bam! I'm getting hits up the wazoo! The trend has continued this morning. By 9:45 AM, LK has already had any other given day's worth of visitors (171).

So I wanted to take the time to welcome the new visitors from AlphaInventions and perhaps suggest that some of my other fellow bloggers utilize this source of spreading awareness.

It's all about getting the word out.

No comment, no accountability. Why hasn't the Attorney General prosecuted anyone in CPS, or would that interfere with federal funding? Millions of dollars could have been avoided in settlements if CPS had just made an effort to keep the mother and child together. I hope Attorney Steve Cornwell settles multiple cases such as this to stop the improper removal of children and end federal fraud. There are a few attorneys in Alaska who have adopted this model.

5-Year-Old Girl Battles Family Court Over Birthrights by Woody Henderson

The Family Court constantly tells us that their rulings are based on the best interest of the child, but consider this. A 5-year-old girl, Stacy Pena, is preparing to do battle with the Bronx Family Court. She has filed a petition to regain her birthrights, which were stolen by this same court, at the request of New York's Administration for Children's Services (ACS), even before she was born. Stacy's biological brother and sister, Joseph and Nancy Pena, were placed into foster care in January 1993, three-years before Stacy's birth. Her parents Lucy and Jose Pena, who had fallen prey to the drug epidemic of the early 90s, understood why their two children had been removed.

Having their children taken from them was a rude awaking for the Pena's. They quickly changed their life style, stopped using drugs and complied with all the requirements ordered by ACS and the family court. ACS however, still insisted the court not return the children and subsequently requested the termination of the Pena's parental rights.
