SC senator calls for DSS hearings

The arrest of a state official charged with embezzling millions in taxpayer money has prompted a state senator to call for investigative hearings.

Greenville GOP Sen. Mike Fair says any management problems in the Department of Social Services should be exposed.

I can tell you first hand that DSS is completely corrupt. They're so overburdened with a backlog of cases that no case receives the attention it should. Reports are routinely faslified, and case workers cnstantly violate court orders. Guarian ad litems, who are suppossed to represent the children, walk lock step with DSS in the vast majority of cases and do little investigation on their own. Someone needs to shine a bright light into this agency. While I'm sure they do save many children from abuse and neglect, far more that have no reason for being taken from their homes are scarred for life and have great emotional harm done to them.
