Parallels
I was especially impressed with this particular part of it as it is a truth that any member of the family rights movement needs to understand. What he is talking about here is what others might call "Psychological Warfare" or "Social Conditioning."
II Fighting back
Essentially we are talking about a propaganda war, a war of information—more correctly, of disinformation. Clearly, therefore, a huge part of the problem is public perception. To employ the much overused cliché: we are engaged in a very real sense in a war of hearts and minds.
It is my contention that a war for hearts and minds cannot be won by disingenuous and deceptive methods, and the efforts so far to disguise the problem into a more politically palatable form is the first of the many cardinal mistakes of the Fathers Rights movement.
Any analysis of propaganda begins and ends with language. Using the verbiage of your enemy is the metaphorical equivalent of allowing the opposing army to choose the battlefield. The language used is the battlefield of the propaganda war we are engaged in. The lexicon of our enemy includes using the socially-constructed “gender” in place of the biologically determined “sex,” “parent” instead of “mother” or “father,” “partner” rather than “husband” or “wife,” “choice” rather than “abortion,” and even “abuser” and “batterer” as synonyms for men who fight for custody of their children.
In other words, this is where all of the bullshit that the family rights movement is up against starts to get deep. This is also a look at a common enemy from a different perspective.
Orphans relocated on trains
Q. Have you heard of the Orphan Train? I was told orphans once were put on trains. The trains then stopped at various towns along their routes, and farmers would adopt the orphans to work on their land. Is this true? If so, when and how long did it last?

Shackling of mentally ill foster kids in Dade, Broward courts in question
Judges and advocates are questioning whether it's right to restrain mentally ill foster children in court. But some say they have no choice.
Last month, a 16-year-old Broward County girl was brought into Circuit Judge John A. Frusciante's courtroom for a hearing. She was handcuffed, her legs shackled with cloth restraints, with two armed deputies leading her by the arm.
Her offense? She's never been charged with one. A mentally ill foster child who was neglected by her mother and wound up in a psychiatric center, the teen was being restrained to keep her from running away, her attorney said.

Gov. Rod Blagojevich lays off 325 state workers to balance budget
Two dozen state parks and historic sites will close and heavy caseloads for workers who help abused children will increase as Gov. Rod Blagojevich lays off 325 state workers to balance the state budget.
The cuts will take place over the next three months, and the administration notified state employees of the layoffs earlier this week. Hardest hit was the Department of Children and Family Services, which will lose 179 staffers. The Department of Human Services will fire 73 people,
Note: And a kid will get killed, and the media will exploit it, and the state will suddenly agree to increase funding and they will hire more workers, take more kids into foster care, overwhelm themselves again, repeat.

Rising demand for foster care triggers new £8.9m cash crisis
A RISE in demand for foster care places in the Capital has led to a fresh cash crisis for the council's biggest department.
The children and families department is on target to spend £8.9 million more than it budgeted for an increase of almost 20 per cent in placements over the past year. It is now likely that savings will be sought in other areas to balance the books. Around a third of the 300 foster carers employed through Edinburgh City Council are based outside the city boundaries due to a shortage of carers in the Capital, but the increasing demand for services means that the council cannot currently afford to place any extra children in foster care or in special schools outside of the local authority area.
Polygamist sect claims evidence withheld
Parent members of a Texas fundamentalist Mormon sect are claiming they are being denied evidence of alleged child abuse and neglect.

Strange surroundings and a traumatic separation may be lessened for children placed in foster care in Bracken County, thanks to donations from a local church group.
----
Note: Rarely do I post or try to analyze these, but here is one of those heartwarming articles that just makes me want to f****** puke.
I have nothing against the people doing what they're doing. Anything to help a child in need is a noble cause indeed and God bless them for doing so. These poor misguided souls just honestly want to help out. It's just too bad that they're falling for the same joke as the rest of the ignorant masses who blindly support the bullshit side of the issue.
The problem is not with anybody who wants to donate to foster children, the problem is with the presentation of the article, the subtle attempt to mislead the public, the attempt to demonize the parents who might just be dealing with a false accusation which you rarely see on the news, as well as the desperate attempt to glorify all of the wonderful people who are there to help out.
Notice how articles like this take the attention off of the real issues and problems surrounding the plight of foster children. Articles like this take the attention off factors like the reasons the children are removed, the reasons they are bounced from home to home, the reasons so few of them graduate high school, the reasons so many of them are medicated, etc. EVERYTHING IS REDUCED TO THE GENERIC LABLES (abuse and neglect) but never do they tell you what the state can consider abuse and neglect to be. Abuse or neglect could mean everything from the breakfast dishes not being washed on time to a beating to within an inch of your life and everything that falls between.
Of course the less severe the case, the less likely you are to hear about it on the nightly news. That wouldn't program your little brain into believing that these people are simply kind and caring heros instead of the self-righteously hypocritical monsters that they truely are. That's why most people figure it all out when they actually deal with them.
Take this line from the article for example...
"Some of these children leave their homes with nothing more than a diaper or the clothes on their backs," said Louise Brown, congregation member. "We wanted to give them something to hold onto they can call their own."
The way it's put, it almost makes you think that these kids never had a thing to begin with. None of them ever had a favorite blanket, none of them ever had a favorite teddy bear. None of them ever had a thing that they loved or could call their own until some babystealer and this curch group comes along to help out. There are people out there dumb enough to fall for it you know. How about giving them their families? That would be something to call their own, wouldn't you think? Especially since most of them shouldn't be in foster care in the first place.
On top of that, how much do you want to bet that these wonderful gifts will be presented to the children by the same babystealers who ripped their families appart durring their monthly visit to the foster home? "Hey Munchkin! I have a present for ya!"
Bullshit!
Painful truth about adopted children
WHEN Julia Rollings first heard that the orphanage from which she had adopted her son and daughter was embroiled in a child-trafficking scandal, she was faced with a life-changing choice.
She could do nothing, safe in the knowledge that her children, Akil and Sabila, had been declared free for adoption by Indian courts, were Australian citizens and were in a place they called home.
Or she could find out for sure whether the story she was told - that Akil and Sabila's parents had voluntarily relinquished them because of ill-health - was true.
Two years ago, Mrs Rollings chose the truth, and the truth hurt.

Suits against DHS “are hard cases to win”

Child abuse, neglect hotline being overhauled
Florida is overhauling its first point of contact to save endangered children and adults by screening more calls made to the abuse and neglect hotline, a move state leaders argue will free overburdened investigators to spend more time on high-risk reports.

“We have learned that long time foster care is not the solution,” said Trish Ploehn, director of Los Angeles County Department of Children and Family Services. “Children aging out of our foster care system at the age of 18 are often unprepared with the challenges of adulthood and are too often alone, unemployed, homeless or in jail.”

More on the Katrina Kidnapping
A Houston woman has been charged with kidnapping after she allegedly went on the lam with five children she took in after Hurricane Katrina. Police say she was originally caring for the children while their mother resettled in New Orleans. (August 7)
“Because there have been allegations made of possible abuse in that home, that the children would be in danger if they returned to the home, we really just have to check it out,” the CPS' Estella Olguin said. “There has to be some significant evidence that there might be abuse in their home. We can't just take them because someone thinks they can be a better parent than the other.”

Adopting domestically can lower hurdles to claiming tax credit
Years ago, Congress sought to ease this financial burden by enacting a generous tax credit for parents who adopt. This year, eligible parents can claim a tax credit of up to $11,650, per child, to cover adoption expenses. A credit is more valuable than a deduction because it comes off the top of your tax bill.
But tougher restrictions on international adoptions could force prospective parents to wait longer to claim the adoption tax credit — and some might not be able to claim it at all.

Changes needed in child agency
DCF has been under a federal court consent decree for nearly two decades. John Hemming: Popular time for injustices in the English family courts
August is a quiet month. However, things have hotted up in public family law injustices.
On Sunday night a house in Essex was raided by police with the doors smashed down to take a 16-year-old boy away from his father. This boy is allowed to marry and pay taxes. However, the courts have decreed he must not under any circumstances stay with his father. A team of officers, therefore, were dispatched to smash down doors and take him to Southend. You would not believe the reasons, but of course it is contempt of court to explain.

The Millennial Social Worker
That said, I did once have to deal with a lesbian babystealer, and quite frankly, she was the worst one I have ever experienced crawling up my ass. I don't know if it had anything to do with her being gay or not. So I make no claim either way.
Today, however, in my wanderings, I came across the blog of a gay babystealer who is angered by people who do not think that gays should be foster parents. Gay or straight, black or white, a babystealer is a babystealer. So check out her blog and tell her what you think.

Editorial was a big boost for CPS
Editorial was a big boost for CPS
I served many years with Child Protective Services in Arizona. One of the main problems that I saw was a lack of public support.
When public support for any state agency is weak, the agency itself has to serve in a rather weakened position. And any agency in a weakened position is not as able to perform its appointed duties.
Note: Now if what this babystealer says here is true, then we are having an effect.
A fellow blogger has a problem. Can you help?

The Big Question: Have we taken child protection measures too far in Britain?
Surrey County Council has been criticised by Ofsted over its "unacceptable and dangerous" efforts to vet staff working with children, warning that youngsters are being put at risk as a result. The issue of checking teachers, youth workers and others responsible for youngsters' welfare has steadily risen up the agenda during the last decade, and the Government is preparing to launch an agency that could result in a quarter of the adult population being vetted for any criminal past.
But there are signs of a backlash against the increase in child protection measures, with claims that it is poisoning the relationships between the generations and deterring law-abiding members of the community from volunteering to work with children.
