Michigan Foster Children Have To Shop In Charity Stores
In the early 80’s I was a substitute teacher in the Hillsborough County, Florida, school system. Let me tell you something about children. They are vicious, beastly, nasty little buggers who only become civilized through an enormous effort that far too many parents don’t’ bother with. They bully other children and they start the process as young as kindergarten. They pick on other children who aren’t like themselves. They have a instinct for the kid who doesn’t have money or any of the fancy toys that they have. They start learning consumerism at very young ages and they are quick to learn to judge others by what they own.
I dunno..I kinda take that a little personal. I shop willingly at thrift stores, does that make me automatically of a lower social class?
ReplyDeleteIt's different when your in foster care. You've already been stripped of who you are, nothing is yours but the toothbrush you came with and the clothing you have...EVERYTHING belonged to someone else...its demeaning, hurtful, and leaves you feeling like NO one cares.
