Foster youth funds shaved from budget
Most children and youth in California’s foster care system grow up with little say in the major decisions that affect their lives. When Governor Schwarzenegger vetoed funding for child welfare services that help ensure foster children and youth have their most basic needs met, he did so without consulting foster children, or even the state’s legislators who authorized the spending and sent a strong signal that meeting the critical needs of California’s abused and neglected youth is a top priority. [Bay Citizen recently covered an angry exchange during a meeting in April.]
