Two month old Robert Whitman, Junior died in foster care on October 2nd. Now his parents want answers about what happened. Valissa Reynolds and Robert Whitman, Senior say their nightmare began last week when child protective services removed all four of their kids from their home. "It's really hard. It's really, really hard," Reynolds said. The couple says their world stopped when they learned their youngest son, Robert Junior, died in his foster home just two days after being placed there. "They were just saying that junior had some issues during the night, and we were asking how, and then they bust out, he's dead, he's deceased," Reynolds explained.

Childbirth is not so joyous for the growing number of women who give birth behind bars. It is a time of humiliation, sadness and separation. Before, during, and after delivery, prison mothers are commonly shackled. No one is there to take those first baby pictures.

A US district judge approved a settlement between the Department of Human Services and a children's rights advocacy group to help abused foster kids. The decision calls for the state to hire 700 more workers. It also downsizes case loads for foster care workers, requires DHS to be monitored and creates a 24-hour abuse hotline.
