Adoption Disruptions to Be Better Reported in Oklahoma

Adoption Disruptions to Be Better Reported in Oklahoma

Adoption disruptions, it's a topic many don't want to talk about - and even fewer adoption agencies want to report. A disruptions means a failed adoption and a child ended back up in the foster care system.

Failed Adoption Reports May Be Required

A State House Committee has unanimously passed a bill that would require DHS to report failed adoptions. When children are adopted, they take the adoptive parents' name. So if the adoption fails and the child goes back into the system, they have a different name and tracking changes. Amber Given is program director for Peppers Ranch, the home for troubled boys near Guthrie. Given says better reporting and tracking will help her learn why adoptions fail, so the adoption system itself can be improved. State senators had already passed the bill.
