Pa. schools prepare for new background checks system, hope volunteerism doesn't suffer

Starting next year, all school employees, contractors and volunteers will need to obtain new security clearances every three years.

The new background check system stems from a slew of new child abuse prevention laws passed in the wake of Jerry Sandusky's conviction for sexually assaulting multiple boys over 15 years.
