General Assembly should hasten to fix Ohio adoption law: editorial

Because of a well-meaning detour built into state law, approximately 400,000 people adopted in Ohio between Jan. 1, 1964, and Sept. 18, 1996, cannot get access to their birth certificates unless they obtain a court order. That's an expensive hurdle for an adult who would like to know about a birth parent's medical history or heritage -- or to extend an offer to meet.
