Last Friday Russia’s president Putin signed a controversial anti-U.S. adoption bill. The bill prohibits American families from adopting Russian children and is largely seen as an attempt to respond to the United States’ unfriendly political move, known as Magnitsky Law, which is meant to stand up against the abuse of human rights in Russia. Meaning to hurt the US, the move harms the lives of many already unfortunate children from Russian orphanages who could have found homes and much needed care.
