Federal Officials Reverse Course on Requiring Families in Maine to Repay For Extra Benefits


It turns out that some 70,000 Maine families who receive food stamps won't have to pay back benefit overpayments afterall. First District Congresswoman Chellie Pingree said federal officials have informed the Maine Department of Health and Human Services that the families, which received overpayments of from twenty to eighty dollars, should not be required to return the money.
