Jailed woman pressing to be allowed to see son

OCALA —
A woman whose infant daughter died while the mother was incarcerated at the
Marion County Jail alleges that, since her child's death, she has not been
allowed to see her son or her case manager.
Kimberly
Nicole Rogers also contends that efforts by her family to get the son from
foster care until her release from jail have been futile.
Furthermore,
Rogers said that, with each passing day of not seeing her son, she fears she
may become just a memory to him -- something she said she desperately does not
want to happen.
"I
just lost one, I don't want to lose another," said the 24-year-old mother
in a recent interview at the jail.
Rogers,
who has been at the jail since her arrest on Aug. 3, 2011 for retail theft, was
sentenced last week to a year in jail. With time already accumulated behind
bars, Rogers is expected to be released in the next three months.
At the
time of her arrest, Rogers had her two children with her. The child's father,
and Rogers' boyfriend, who also was with them, was also taken into custody.
With the
couple's arrest, the children, Ayanna and her brother, Jayden Ross, were placed
in a licensed foster home, and Kids Central was handling the case.
In late
January, at the request of Rogers, the siblings were removed from the foster
home and placed with a family friend, someone who Rogers had known when she and
the friend were both involved with the Department of Children and Families.
A month
later, Ayanna Ross was taken to Munroe Regional Medical Center when it was
reported that her brother allegedly had dropped a helmet on her.
