Legislature plans to keep kinship funding

Despite implementing severe budget cuts to public education, Texas legislators have still managed to keep in mind the children who most need their attention.

Lawmakers proposed recently that $37 million remain in the state budget for kinship care, a six-year program that GOP leaders initially planned to eliminate. The program enables abused foster children to stay with familiar caregivers such as relatives and good neighbors, instead of strangers.
