Settlements often cases of dads coerced out of their rights

RE ““CHILD-CUSTODY cases demand discretion, not new laws’’ (Editorial, June 13): In many cases where it appears that divorcing parents have been able to reach a parenting settlement, the father has actually been coerced into accepting an unsatisfactory “agreement’’ because an attorney advised him that he cannot expect a better outcome if he goes to trial, or because he cannot afford the legal expenses of going to trial, which may cost tens of thousands of dollars.
