State awards child welfare contract for Milwaukee County
St. Aemilian-Lakeside Inc. in Milwaukee has been awarded the state of Wisconsin child welfare contract for Milwaukee County that the incumbent agency, La Causa Inc., is canceling this year, the Wisconsin Department of Children and Families said Monday.
La Causa said it would cancel the $11 million contract in the wake of negative publicity surrounding the death of a 13-month-old child who died while under the care of his aunt. La Causa workers were accused of mishandling the case.
