Editorial: Make notifications of child deaths law

When abused and neglected children end up dead in Michigan, lessons should be learned. Lawmakers should support legislation to amend the Child Protection Law to require the Department of Human Services (DHS) to notify the Children's Ombudsman about the death of a child under state supervision. Nothing in the statute requires that be done, although an informal agreement now exists. This notification needs to be a part of the law to help improve accountability and performance.
